In case you hadn't heard, Harry Potter books are the latest kid sensation (Winning the Nestle's Smarties Award) and the longest children's book time on the NYT bestseller's list (#4 after more than 5 months!!).
The Harry Potter books are about a 11-year-old wizard who escapes a dreary life with his horrid "muggle" aunt and uncle, the Dursleys, when on his 12th birthday, a giant takes him away to the finest school of witchcraft and wizardry ever, Hogwarts.
On the first day of school, Harry meets his best friends Hermione [Her-me-own??] and Ron, also aquainting himself with arch-nemesis Slytherin snake-in-the-grass, Draco Malfoy. (Draco's parents were once on the dark side.)
Harry is famous throughout the wizarding world for destroying the dark wizard Voldemort, when he was just a newborn.  Strange happenings at the school indicate the evil Voldemort is at it again, in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, available in the UK and USA.

The second book, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, is just as captivating as the first, finding Harry being whisked away from the dreary Dursleys by his friend Ron Weasley and his brothers in a flying car. Harry spends the rest of the summer happily living with the Weasleys.  As school starts, Ron and Harry are already in trouble for riding their flying car to Hogwarts, but the trouble thickens when Harry begins to hear noises coming out of the walls at school, and numerous students are suddenly being petrified. Harry turns into one of Draco's henchman and gets sucked through a giant sink in this luminous sequel to the first classic, already on the UK bestseller list.

The latest Harry Potter book find Harry escaping from <yeah, yeah: we know... the dreaded dursleys> and meets the famed Cornelius Fudge on his journey.  They spend a joyous summer together, and I forget what happens next, but Harry Potter and his friends have a wizard of a time in Harry Potter and the Prisoned of Azkaban. (To the right is the UK book---they haven't designed the US one yet.)

Here is some info about the Wizards in the Harry Potter books:

                    Money Tables:
                            1 Galleon     =    17 Sickles
                            1 Sickle        =     29 Knuts

Also, some questions about the consistency of the Harry Potter books:
*How come Harry saved the world from Voldemort in the first book and he got, like, 20 points and in the second book, he got 200points and a plaque?  Are they nicer, or what??
*How come Harry is wearing jeans when he's a wizard?
*Why would Lucius Malfoy want Hogwarts closed?
*Argus (filch) is named after the 100-eyed watchman of Hera---i get it!!!!
        *I'd love to have a bird that'd blow up : )
*If the wizards have different times and money than the "muggles", how come they have the same name for common things (like doors, walls, fire, etc.)?
*When the diary is stolen from Harry, why do they know its a Gryffindor, when a wizard with powerful skills at the Dark Arts would obviously be able to break into a dormitory?
*If "you will never get quite as good results with another wizard's wand," then why do Ginny and Ron have 2nd-hand wands?

Hogwarts School Song:

Hogwarts, Hogwarts, Hoggy Warty Hogwarts,
Teach us something please,
Whether we be old and bald
Or young with scabby knees,
Our heads could do with filling
with some interesting stuff,
For now they're bare and full of air,
Dead flies and bits of fluff,
So teach us things worth knowing,
Bring back what we've forgot,
Just do your best, we'll do the rest,
And learn until our brains all rot.
