Here is a game (zipped, 273k), I've written (Windows 32). It is like Risk, but better!
It's a tatical game, best played with 2 human players, but has computer players who you will probably beat on your first go.
If anyone thinks they could come up with a good algoritm for the computer to follow, or even better, is a C++ programmer, and wants to actually write a better computer module, e-mail me).
The game is still in Alpha (that means not finished, not tested, and comes with absolutly no warrentee!) It is donation ware, that means, feel free to send me money. If you do, I'll feel more inclined to finish it, write a decent computer player, and add the long list of improvements, including network play, multi-game types (eg, grab the flag), and many special features, like shops to 'buy' 'power-ups', and make it all full configurable.
Warning: This game is very addictive, my brother originally wrote it, but for his computer (a BBC), not mine (an Atari ST), so I had to write it my self. But I don't have my ST anymore (although I still have the game on disk), so I had to write it again for the PC.
The basics are as follows:
- Green is Land, Blue is Water.
- Each player starts with 5 squares (in a cross), each with 9 units on (the number is the amount of units)
- You attack other squares, to take land, by pressing the from square with the mouse, then the to square (which must be one of the 4 adjecent squares). If you don't want to move all the units, change the number in the box at the top of the window BETWEEN presing the from and to squares.
- Units are normally lost if the defending square has more than 2 units, or more units.
- You lose the number of units the defending square is above 2 (eg, 9 attacks a 3, it becomes a 8 and the defending square was 1 above 2, so the 9 is decreased by 1)
- Assuming you move at least 2, attacking a 1, will increase your units by one
- No more than 9 units can occupy a square
- You can build land, by moving 9 units to sea, but the units are LOST
- Every 5 turns, you get recruits, the amount is dependant on the amount of land you own
- The recruitments are placed on the players 'front line'
- The players front line depends on their player number. Front line => P1 = Bottem right, P2 = Top left, P3 = Bottem left, P4 Top right
- Forts are a recent feature, and may not work in the game, the computer does not use them
- Forts are placed by picking a square, and chosing from the special menu, the square must have 8 or 9 units on, as the cost is 8 units to build
- When a fort is attacked, the square acts as if it has 2 extra units
