TRIBAL SOURCES OF AL KHAMSA FOUNDATION HORSES:

The Wuld Sulayman

Official information of the Davenport mare *URFAH and her son *HAMRAH, both Saqlawi Jedrans of Ibn Zedan Al Awaj only indicated that they were bred by the Anazeh, but Raswan says the Ibn Zadan (Badan) El Awaj was a member of the Wuld Sulayman. *TAAMRI, an Abayyan stallion, bred by the Wuld Sulayman was foaled at the Sa'ud Royal stud in Saudi Arabia and was imported to the USA in 1960 by DJ Roach. The Sa'ud royal family was originally derived from the Wuld Sulayman tribe of the Anazeh.

*URFAH 40 DAVENPORT

An 1898 bay Saqlawiyah-Al Abd mare of Abu Zeyd Al-Awaje of the Abda-Shammar, imported in 1906 to the U.S.A. by Homer Davenport
NOTES: The above information (except for the date) is from a recent translation of *Urfah's Arabic export document by Jamal A.A.Rabia and his wife, Sahar D. Rabia (in Rabia, Rabia, Dirks & Dirks, 1992). The date is from the initial 1909 Arabian Horse Club stud book entry for *Urfah. The stud book entry shows the strain of Saqlawi-Jidran for both sire and dam and shows *Urfah as bred by the Anazah. According to the 1909 Davenport catalog, *Urfah's birthdate was 1899, her sire was a Saqlawi-Al Abd and she herself was a Saqlawiyah- Jidraniyah of the strain of Ibn Zedan Al-Awaj. In *Urfah's entry #10755 in Carl Raswan's Index, *Urfah is shown as by a Saqlawi-Al Abd and as out of a Saqlawiyah- Jidraniyah of Ibn Rabdan Al-Awaj of the Wuld Sulayman Anazah.

*HAMRAH 28 DAVENPORT

A 1904 bay Saqlawi-Al Abd stallion of Abu Zeyd al-Awaje of the Abda-Shammar and imported in 1906 to the U.S.A. by Homer Davenport.
By a Hamdani-Simri out of *Urfah AHR #40.
NOTES: The above information (except for the sire) is from a recent translation of *Urfah's Arabic export document by Jamal A.A.Rabia and Sahar D. Rabia(in Rabia, Rabia, Dirks & Dirks, 1992). Other sources have instead shown *Hamrah and *Urfah as Saqlawi-Jidran. *Hamrah's entry in the Arabian Horse Club stud book adds the sire information and calls the breeder Ibn Badan el Awagi of the Anazah. Davenport's 1909 catalog refers to *Hamrah as of the strain of Ibn Zedan Al-Awaji. A note by Davenport on the back of *Farha's export document indicates that *Haffia and *Hamrah were by the same stallion, a chestnut Hamdani-Simri. According to *Hamrah's entry #3464 in Carl Raswan's Index, the breeder was Ibn Badan Al-Awaji of the Wuld Sulayman Anazah. This entry also shows *Hamrah's sire as a Hamdani-Simri of Ibn Subay'i of the Saba Anazah. (See under *Urfah, p. 87)

*TAAMRI 13026 SA'UD

A 1948 chestnut Abayyan stallion bred by the Wuld Sulayman, foaled at the Sa'ud Royal Studs, and imported in 1960 to the U.S.A. by Sam J. Roach. Also called Sorghum.
By Balam, a db Abayyan of the Wuld Sulayman out of Ubayd, a chestnut db Abayyah of the Wuld Sulayman.          NOTES: The above information is from *Taamri's Saudi export document and AHR importation records. *Taamri was retained by the Sa'ud Royal Stud until aged 9, when he was sold to S.J.Roach. *Taamri's breeder is given as Sa'ud Ibn Abd' Al Aziz in his stud book entry (see under Breeder, p.20). [In one version of the microfiche AHR stud book, the sire of all of the horses in the Roach importation (*Taamri, *Rudann, *Halwaaji, *Amiraa) is listed as "Hath Fan II," a change from the printed stud books and not in agreement with their Saudi documentation. This was in error and has been corrected in the AHR computer.]
