My personal opinion is inclusion is a wonderful goal to strive for, but at the secondary level, academic classes move too quickly, too high a vocabulary and more reading than any of my students can handle. I include them in as many classes as they are comfortable with and I can provide an adult aide to accompany them.

SCANS Report"What work requires of schools" is the report that defines 5 competencies and skills needed. Older report that still is an excellent resource for those who work or parent students in special education classes.

The National Longitudinal Transition Study Very important study of youth with disabilities during secondary school and early adulthood. It does not exactly make one jump for joy. It looks like the schools need to get busy and figure out how to make these students be successful in life.

Bureau of Labor Statistics You can find out about a specific occupation, occupational clusters or all occupations listed alphabetically. Also has Occupational Outlook Quarterly available on line.

Work Experience Education Resources California site - Regional Occupational Centers and Programs in California, work permits, & vocational education. California state site with lots of good info. If you like some link, be sure to bookmark it as I feel that this site is getting old and the state loves to update with a new URL thrown in.

IDEA Practices (transition) Has excellent IDEA law & regulations, professional development resources and links.

California Employment Development Department Each state will have something similar.

National Transition Network * University of Minnesota's site on current events and information relating to transition.

Occupational Outlook Handbook, 2002-03 Edition This site will let you print or download PDF files on individual occupations. Tells how to buy the handbook.

National Center on Educational Outcomes Provides "national leadership in the participation of students with disabilities in national and state assessments, standards-setting efforts, and graduation requirements" Has great topics and some publications.
