GILE - Descendants of Johann Christoff Geil of Ohio

Johann Christoff Geil came from Germany in 1790, settled in Montgomery Co. Ohio. When he purchased land, his name was spelled "Geil" and also on many documents. However, in the early 1800s, he started spelling his surname "Gile" in various documents and on his probate. His children moved to Indiana where their surname was "Gile" and most descendants used that spelling or "Guile". Be sure and look at the notes that accompany the records.
