My Favorite Psalms

Blessed is the man (human being, person) who walks not in (not involved with) the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful - Psalm 1:1.

For the Lord knows (to distinguish, recognize, be acquainted with) the way of the righteous, but the way of the ungodly (ones guilty of sin) shall perish (be destroyed, lost) - Psalm 1:6.

Kiss (be equipped with) the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled (to start burning) but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust (confide, hope, to make a refuge) in Him - Psalm 2:12.

Salvation belongs to the Lord (this is referring to the deliverance from the pressure that Psalm 3 earlier described). Your blessing is upon Your people - Psalm 3:8.

The boastful shall not stand in Your sight; You hate all workers of iniquity - Psalm 5:5. ~ Note: That means God does not love everybody. Also take a look at 11:5 below...

Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way (course of life, moral character) straight (to be right) before my face - Psalm 5:8.

... let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; let them ever shout for joy, because you defend them; let those also who love Your name be joyful (triumph) in You - Psalm 5:11.

For You, O Lord, will bless the righteous; with favor You will surround him as with a shield - Psalm 5:12.

God is a just judge, and God is angry with the wicked every day. If he does not turn back (repent), He will sharpen His sword; He bends His bow and makes it ready. He also prepares for Himself instruments of death; He makes His arrows into fiery shafts - Psalm 7:11-13. ~ Note: The Warrior is the Lord and the battle is against the wicked. If they don't repent, they will be punished with fire.

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth... - Psalm 8:1. ~ Note: I love worshiping God with this phrase, it is in a song. I also have it on a framed picture on the wall right next to me at my computer.

For the needy shall not always be forgotten (ignored); the expectation (things hoped for, outcome) of the poor shall not perish forever - Psalm 9:18. ~ Note: This gives hope. Even if we are frustrated with needs now, we know that it doesn't have to stay that way.

Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand! Do not forget the humble - Psalm 10:12.

Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear - Psalm 10:17.

The Lord tests (examines) the righteous, but the wicked and the one who loves violence His soul hates - Psalm 11:5. ~ Note: This proves that God does not love everybody in their sinning state of being. People who say "God hates the sin but loves the sinner" are not telling the truth. They should read the bible more if they want to talk about God.

Upon the wicked He will rain coals (snares, traps); fire and brimstone (judgment) and a burning (horrible) wind (disposition) shall be the portion of their cup - Psalm 11:6. ~ Note: This is similar to the scene in Rev. 21:8 where they shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone.

For the Lord is righteous, He loves righteousness; His countenance (presence) beholds the upright (straight, proper, righteous) - Psalm 11:7.

Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in your holy hill? He who walks (lives) uprightly (wholesome, having integrity), and works (does) righteousness (what is ethically right, justice), and speaks the truth in his heart (mind, conscience, of moral character) - Psalm 15:1,2.

As for the saints who are on the earth, "They are the excellent (noble) ones, in whom is all my delight." - Psalm 16:3.

You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore - Psalm 16:11.

I will love you, O Lord, my strength. The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold - Psalm 18:1,2.

I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from my enemies - Psalm 18:3. ~ Note: This is part of a good popular song.

Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundation of the hills also quaked and were shaken, because He was angry - Psalm 18:7. ~ Note: Twice I repented because of earthquakes. I knew God was angry when I was calling myself a Christian but still a slave to sin and there was the Whittier earthquake that got me to awake out of darkness in 1987. I really turned to the Lord and He set me free from sin and made me a totally different person being a new creature in Christ. Then I was backsliden and back deep in sin in 1988 & 1989, but God got my attention through an earthquake again and I got right with Him again. ~ Thank You Lord for Your mercy!

I was also blameless (innocent, what is complete or entirely in accord with truth and fact) before Him, and I kept (to be on one's guard, refrained, abstained) myself from my iniquity (sin) - Psalm 18:23.

For you will save the humble people, but will bring down haughty (exalting oneself) looks (conceit)- Psalm 18:27. ~ Note: We better be humble.

The Lord lives! Blessed be my Rock! Let the God of my salvation be exalted - Psalm 18:46. ~ Note: Praise the Lord! This is another verse put into an excellent song.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for You are with me... Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life - Psalm 23:4,6.

He who has clean (innocent, free from guilt) hands and a pure heart, who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of His salvation - Psalm 24:4,5. ~ Note: God makes us better people after we repent from sin and make an effort to get right with Him.

Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle - Psalm 24:8. ~ Note: The Lord is a mighty Warrior who fights victoriously for us.

Do not gather my soul with sinners (offenders who are exposed to condemnation), nor my life with bloodthirsty men, in whose hands is a sinister scheme, and whose right hand is full of bribes - Psalm 26:9,10.

But as for me, I will walk in my integrity; redeem (deliver, rescue) me and be merciful (gracious, show favor) to me - Psalm 26:11.

The Lord is my light (of instruction) and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?... Though an army may encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war may rise against me, in this I will be confident - Psalm 27:1,3. Note: This one was in a song that I use to sing in choir at church. I really loved singing it as loud as I could.

Wait (look for, hope) on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord! - Psalm 27:14. ~ Note: It may seem tough waiting at times, but be strong in the faith and continue to hope in God.

The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace (safety, soundness) - Psalm 29:11.

Oh, how great is Your goodness, which you have laid up for those who fear You, which You have prepared for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men - Psalm 31:19.

Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person. Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord - Psalm 31:23,24.

Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful - Psalm 33:1 ~ Note: I'm so glad Jesus set me free. Hallelujah!

For our heart shall rejoice in Him, because we have trusted in His holy name - Psalm 33:21.

Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, just as we hope in You - Psalm 33:22.

Oh, magnify (promote, praise, to cause to grow, make great, make powerful) the Lord with me [Jesus Christ is wonderful], and let us exalt His name together - Psalm 34:3. ~ Note: This verse is another one that was in a song I sang in choir. I loved singing it. It was powerful.

The angel of the Lord encamps (bends down, dwells) all around those who fear Him, and delivers (removes, rescues, saves) them - Psalm 34:7. ~ Note: Thank You Lord.

Oh, taste (perceive) and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him! - Psalm 34:8.

Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking deceit, depart from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it - Psalm 34:13,14.

Many are the afflictions (troubles, injury, distress) of the righteous, but the Lord delivers them out of them all - Psalm 34:19. ~ Thank You Lord!

Evil shall slay the wicked, and those who hate the righteous shall be condemned (guilty, desolate) - Psalm 34:21. Note: Well, if you got this far, you probably don't hate me. That's good, you better not! This is not a laughing matter. I don't want you condemned.

Plead my cause, O Lord, with those who strive (contend) with me; fight against those who fight against me - Psalm 35:1

Who rejoice at my hurt (trouble); let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who exalt themselves against me - Psalm 35:26.

Do not fret (to be hot, furious, angry) because of evildoers, nor be envious (jealous) of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither (fade away, fall down) as the green herb - Psalm 37:1,2. Note: I use to think fret meant something like worry, but after looking into a Strongs concordance I see it means something different. It's a big deal of a difference. Sometimes us Christians want to take a hard stance for righteousness, and we might get hot and angry because of evildoers. But God's word here says that is wrong.

A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked - Psalm 37:16.

The steps (goings) of a good man are ordered (prepared, arranged, set up) by the Lord, and He delights in his way - Psalm 37:23.

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in His holy mountain - Psalm 48:1. ~ Note: This is another verse in a powerful choir song I use to sing.

"Now consider this, you who forget (ignore) God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there be none to deliver: whoever offers praise glorifies Me; and to him who orders (makes) his conduct (way, manner, habit, course of life) aright I will show the salvation of God." - Psalm 50:22,23. ~ Note: This is the Lord speaking here out of Asaph. Praise the Lord. If we make ourself get right with right ways of living and habits, then the Lord will let us see salvation. But it doesn't look good for those who ignore God. So turn to Jesus and He will change you.

Create in me a clean (morally pure) heart, O God, and renew a steadfast (firm, stable) spirit within me. Do not cast (throw) me away from your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me - Psalm 51:10,11. ~ Note: These verses prove "Once Saved, Always Saved" IS WRONG.

Restore (return back) to me the joy of Your salvation, and uphold me by Your generous Spirit. Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, and sinners shall be converted to You - Psalm 51:12,13.

Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man? ... You love evil more than good, lying rather than speaking righteousness - Psalm 52:1-3. ~ Note: I hope this isn't true for anyone reading this. If so, you ought to repent, like I did.

Through God we will do valiantly (powerfully), for it is He who shall tread down (trample, desecrate) our enemies - Psalm 60:12. ~ Note: I remember this verse was in one of the first songs I played the bass guitar to in church back in 1990.

Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us - Psalm 62:8.

If riches increase, do not set (regard) your heart (inner man, mind) on them - Psalm 62:10.

Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work (thing done) - Psalm 62:12.

For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined - Psalm 66:10.

We went through fire (God's anger) and through water (danger, violence); but you brought us out to rich fulfillment - Psalm 66:12.

God be merciful to us and bless us, and cause His face to shine upon us, that Your way may be known on earth, Your salvation among all nations - Psalm 67:1,2. ~ Note: Here God's mercy and blessing upon us now, will make Him to be known to people so they can get saved too.

It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night - Psalm 92:1,2.

O Lord, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep. A senseless man does not know, nor does a fool understand this - Psalm 92:5,6.

For the Lord is great and greatly to be praised; He is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the peoples are idols, but the Lord made the heavens - Psalm 96:4,5.

For He is coming, for He is coming to judge the earth. He shall judge the world with righteousness, and the peoples with His truth - Psalm 96:13. ~ Note: This is referring to His 2nd coming when He will judge us according to His truth, which is His word. ~ Jesus said, "He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges Him-- the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day." - John 12:48.

Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, him I will destroy; the one who has a haughty look and a proud heart, him I will not endure - Psalm 101:5. ~ Note: These might not seem like sins, but they are. Make sure you humble yourself and don't practice reviling people. Revilers will not inherit the kingdom of God (1 Cor. 6:10). Pride is a big sin that keeps people from becoming born again and can also make an elder lose his salvation (1 Tim. 3:6). ~ "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble." (James 4:6 and 1Peter 5:5).

He who works deceit shall not dwell within my house; he who tells lies shall not continue in my presence - Psalm 101:7. ~ Note: David said this, but we should preach so hard that it becomes real to us also. Sinners should either repent or they should not want to be around you. Don't put up with sin. Stand for righteousness and preach against sin, or else people around you might not go to heaven. ...and all liars (or deceitful people) shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire... - Revelation 21:8.
