Mug Shots
... and a little more about me, "Shadow"

tiny shadow Mom & Dad have always regretted that they didn't take more pictures of us when we were younger. They're doing better now, but there just aren't many of me as a pup. This is the only one I managed to sniff out, taken on my first weekend home, with my old best friend, Squire. My parents were a lab, and a basset/lab. My littermates all looked like labs, and were all much bigger than me... one grew up to be 125 lbs... but I got all my dad's basset genes, along with his short legs & love of DIGGING!

Here we are together again. By this time I was probably around two years old. There were only two of us then, so I got lots of attention. That was really nice, but it didn't make up for the fact that I was the runt of my litter, and had some serious temperament problems. I am what's known as a "shy dog," and while I love meeting new people and going new places, I sometimes get fairly grumpy when my personal space is invaded. I would never bite anyone (I haven't ever in my almost thirteen years), but I do tend to be quite a growly girl when the world around me closes in too closely. Luckily, my human and canine family all understand, and take it in stride.

waiting for treats

This is probably the best picture Mom ever got of me. You see, I'm not all that fond of sitting still long enough to pose even now, and when I was young I was always on the go. I was always a good watchdog, and admit to being very fond of the sound of my own voice. Even though I only weigh around 50 lbs, people are always surprised that I have the biggest BARK in the family. I love to explore outdoors and am still hoping that someday I WILL get one of the gophers that get Dad so annoyed!
