Cat, Kittens Found Alive In WTC Rubble

Vet: All Eating Well, Should Recover

NEW YORK CITY -- The World Trade Center recovery effort has
brought plenty of sadness, and some extraordinary tales of survival,
including one of a very resourceful cat.

Beneath the rubble, in a forgotten basement
of what was once a restaurant, rescuers found
the blast survivor, curled up in a
carton of napkins.

The owner of the restaurant made the discovery about two weeks after the disaster. He immediately called rescuers.

Dr. John Charros said that the cat had given birth to three
beautiful kittens.

"Mom was very emaciated, very thin and dehydrated. She's suffering
from the flu. She's still getting over that now, and had a little
secondary bacterial infection. The babies were in pretty good shape;
they had been feeding well. I think mama weighed in at five pounds
when she was first brought in. She should probably weigh somewhere
between eight and 10 pounds," Charros said.

Doctors immediately hospitalized the animals and predict a full
recovery. Mom has been christened "Hope." The babies are being
called "Freedom," "Amber" and "Flag."

Shelter operators at Brooklyn's Center for Animal Care and Control
said that they've found homes for the cat and kittens. They should
be able to leave the hospital in November.

NEVER, ON ANY FRONT

While we have mourned our losses and searched for solace this past week,
we have united our hearts and our minds. Our wills remain strong and
steadfast. Our spirits are soaring with determination.

Americans are now asking themselves, "What can I do to help?"
Millions have prayed and tens of thousands have responded to blood drives
and have donated money to the Red Cross and other trusted organizations.
That will continue. But what else can you do?

The answer may be more simple than you realize. The answer is work
harder -- harder than you've ever worked before.

Here's why:

As America and her allies unite, there is an important aspect of the terrorists'
strategy to destabilize the civilized world that cannot be ignored.

David Dolan, a former CBS correspondent in Israel, stated this week,
"(The) enemies concluded in the 1970's that the great United States could
eventually be brought to its knees by internal guerilla-style terrorist
strikes that would wreak emotional and economic havoc.

"America's gigantic warships and far flung military bases would prove
basically useless... Militants realized that the main target for attack
should be lower Manhattan, since that would severely injure the massive
U.S. economy -- the key element in America's power and prestige."

The terrorists were successful in wreaking emotional havoc.

However, the economic havoc our enemies have conspired so hard to
achieve can be stopped!

You see, our enemies used our own airplanes to destroy our lives and
property, and now they want to use our own fears to destroy our economy.
They've physically killed our countrymen, and now they want to economically
kill the rest of us.

Our free economic system is psychologically driven. When you're scared, you
stop spending, when you stop spending, the economy comes to a standstill,
and more workers are laid off, creating a downward spiral.

The value of the American dollar is based on consumer confidence and
productivity. That's why, more than ever, Americans need to insure that
our economic base remains strong by doing two simple things -- work harder
and spend money!

The money you spend has to be earned by good old fashioned hard work.

The same holds true for our government. The $40 billion that has been
pledged by Congress to fight this terror does not grow on trees. While
Congress does have a printing press in the basement, the fact remains, that
the value of the money is only backed by the labor it takes to create it.
If American consumers are not working, not buying products or services, and
not paying taxes, then the $40 billion might as well be Monopoly money --
it is worthless.

We cannot fight this new war with fake currency.

If there were ever a time for Americans to roll up their sleeves and
get to work, now is the time.

You may not be in the military -- but you can do your part in assuring
victory in this new war by being a confident and loyal supporter of our
economic system by shopping with your hard earned dollars.

There are no excuses. If you don't have a job, find one. If you can't get
one, then do something constructive and fix up the house. If you're retired,
volunteer to fix up your community. No matter what your circumstances, each
of us can apply more effort to our occupations and volunteer activities.

Even though our thoughts and prayers during this past week have taken
us away from our jobs, this is not the time to curl up in a ball and
pretend this is all going to go away. If you want to do your part in
making America stronger, now is the time to open your wallet and buy
American to put other Americans to work.

The stock market will be re-opening. The terrorists will be watching
the financial television networks, with great hopes that the opening bell
will spell disaster. Nothing would make them rejoice more than to see the
markets nosedive into economic chaos, forcing businesses to close. They
are hoping that investors will run for the hills, causing an erosion in
confidence of our capitalistic system. We've already seen it. Our airline
companies are on the brink of collapse.

What can you do? Buy American stocks! Make solid investments in our blue
chip companies that employ hundreds of thousands of workers and who make up
the backbone of our commercial prosperity. If you like smaller companies,
then buy those too. Mortgage rates are very low and stocks have been
undervalued for too long. You have a golden opportunity to personally
participate in America's economic triumph and thwart the terrorists' plans.
And buying U.S. Savings Bonds doesn't hurt either!

It's time to invest in America!

It's time to put our shoulders to the grindstone, work harder and
better at our jobs, and unite our pocketbooks to show the terrorists
that they will NEVER win on any front.

Here is an editorial from a Romanian Newspaper that is being distributed by
US Forces Command Public Affairs Office. It is worth reading.

Subject: Editorial from a Romanian newspaper
AN ODE TO AMERICA

Why are Americans so united? They don't resemble one another even if you paint
them! They speak all the languages of the world and form an astonishing mixture
of civilizations. Some of them are nearly extinct, others are incompatible with
one another, and in matters of religious beliefs, not even God
can count how many they are.

Still, the American tragedy turned three hundred million people into a hand
put on the heart. Nobody rushed to accuse the White House, the army, the secret
services that they are only a bunch of losers. Nobody rushed to empty their
bank accounts. Nobody rushed on the streets nearby to gape about.

The Americans volunteered to donate blood and to give a helping hand. After
the first moments of panic, they raised the flag on the smoking ruins, putting
on T-shirts, caps and ties in the colors of the national flag. They placed flags
on buildings and cars as if in every place and on every car a minister or the
president was passing. On every occasion they started singing their
traditional song: "God Bless America!".

Silent as a rock, I watched the charity concert broadcast on Saturday once
twice, three times, on different TV channels. There were Clint Eastwood, Willie
Nelson, Robert de Niro, Julia Roberts, Muhammad Ali, Jack Nicholson, Bruce
Springsteen, Silvester Stalone, James Wood, and many others whom no film or
producers could ever bring together. The American's solidarity spirit turned
them into a choir. Actually, choir is not the word. What you could hear was
the heavy artillery of the American soul. What neither George W. Bush, nor
Bill Clinton, nor Colin Powell could say without facing the risk of stumbling
over words and sounds, was being heard in a great and unmistakable way
in this charity concert.

I don't know how it happened that all this obsessive singing of America didn't
sound croaky, nationalist, or ostentatious! It made you green with envy because
you weren't able to sing for your country without running the risk of being
considered chauvinist, ridiculous, or suspected of who-knows-what mean interests.

I watched the live broadcast and the rerun of its rerun for hours listening to
the story of the guy who went down one hundred floors with a woman in a
wheelchair without knowing who she was, or of the Californian hockey player
who fought with the terrorists and prevented the plane from hitting a target
that would have killed other hundreds or thousands of people. How on earth were
they able to bow before a fellow human? Imperceptibly, with every word and
musical note, the memory of some turned into a modern myth of tragic heroes.
And with every phone call, millions and millions of dollars were put in a
collection aimed at rewarding not a man or family, but a spirit which nothing can buy.

What on earth can unite the Americans in such a way? Their land? Their
galloping history? Their economic power? Money? I tried for hours to find
an answer, humming songs and murmuring phrases which risk of sounding like
commonplaces. I thought things over, but I reached only one conclusion.

Only freedom can work such miracles!

AN OPEN LETTER TO A TERRORIST:

Well, you hit the World Trade Center, but you missed America. You hit the
Pentagon, but you missed America. You used helpless American bodies, to take
out other American bodies, but like a poor marksman, you STILL missed America.

Why? Because of something you guys will never understand. America isn't
about a building or two, not about financial centers, not about military
centers, America isn't about a place, America isn't even about a bunch of
bodies. America is about an IDEA. An idea, that you can go someplace where
you can earn as much as you can figure out how to, live for the most part,
like you envisioned living, and pursue Happiness. (No guarantees that you'll
reach it, but you can sure try!)

Go ahead and whine your terrorist whine, and chant your terrorist litany:
"If you can not see my point, then feel my pain." This concept is alien to
Americans. We live in a country where we don't have to see your point. But
you're free to have one. We don't have to listen to your speech. But you're
free to say one. Don't know where you got the strange idea that everyone has
to agree with you. We don't agree with each other in this country, almost as
a matter of pride. We're a collection of guys that don't agree, called
States. We united our individual states to protect ourselves from tyranny in
the world. Another idea, we made up on the spot. You CAN make it up as you
go, when it's your country.......... If you're free enough.

Yeah, we're fat, sloppy, easy-going goofs most of the time. That's an
unfortunate image to project to the world, but it comes of feeling free and
easy about the world you live in. It's unfortunate too, because people start
to forget that when you attack Americans, they tend to fight like a cornered
badger. The first we knew of the War of 1812, was when England burned
Washington D.C. to the ground. Didn't turn out like England thought it was
going to, and it's not going to turn out like you think, either. Sorry, but
you're not the first bully on our shores, just the most recent.

No Marquis of Queensbury rules for Americans, either. We were the FIRST and
so far, only country in the world to use nuclear weapons in anger. Horrific
idea, nowadays? News for you bucko, it was back then too, but we used it
anyway. Only had two of them in the whole world and we used 'em both.
Grandpa Jones worked on the Manhattan Project. Told me once, that right up
until they threw the switch, the physicists were still arguing over whether
the Uranium alone would fission, or whether it would start a fissioning
chain reaction that would eat everything. But they threw the switch anyway,
because we had a War to win.

Does that tell you something about American Resolve?

So who just declared War on us? It would be nice to point to some real estate,
like the good old days. Unfortunately, we're probably at war with random
camps, in far-flung places. Who think they're safe. Just like the Barbary
Pirates did, IIRC. Better start sleeping with one eye open.

There's a spirit that tends to take over people who come to this country,
looking for opportunity, looking for liberty, looking for freedom. Even if
they misuse it. The Marielistas that Castro emptied out of his prisons,
were overjoyed to find out how much freedom there was.

First thing they did when they hit our shores, was run out and buy guns.
The ones that didn't end up dead, ended up in prisons. It was a big PITA then
(especially in south Florida), but you're only the newest PITA, not the first.

You guys seem to be incapable of understanding that we don't live in America,
America lives in US! American Spirit is what it's called. And killing a few
thousand of us, or a few million of us, won't change it.

Most of the time, it's a pretty happy-go-lucky kind of Spirit. Until we're
crossed in a cowardly manner, then it becomes an entirely different
kind of Spirit.

Wait until you see what we do with that Spirit, this time.
Sleep tight, if you can. We're coming.

A Dream

It is the year 2032 and a father and his son walk the streets of lower
Manhattan. Approaching the site where the World Trade Center used to be,
the father sighs and comments, "To think that right here used to be the Twin Towers..."

The son, not understanding, asks his father, "What are the Twin Towers?" The
father smiles and looks at the son, and explains, "The Twin Towers were two
huge buildings that used to be here until 2001, when the terrorists destroyed them."

The son looks up to his father, and asks, "And what are terrorists?"

How many of us have heard that question, "Where was your GOD when
the World Trade Center and the Pentagon was attacked?"

Well, I know where my GOD was the morning of September 11, 2001, and
He was very busy!

He was trying to discourage anyone from taking these flights. Those four
flights together held over 1000 passengers and there were only 266 aboard.

He was on four commercial flights giving terrified passengers the ability
to stay calm. Not one of the family members who were called by a loved
one on one of the hijacked planes said that passengers were screaming in
the background. On one of the flights He was giving strength to passengers
to try to overtake the hijackers.

He was busy trying to create obstacles for employees at the World Trade
Center. After all, only around 20,000 were at the towers when the first
jet hit. Since the buildings held over 50,000 workers, this was a Miracle
in itself. How many of the people who were employed at the World Trade
Center told the media that they were late for work or they had traffic delays.

He was holding up two 110-story buildings so that 2/3 of the workers could
get out. I was so amazed that the top of the towers didn't topple when the
jets impacted. And when they did fall, they fell inward. GOD didn't allow
them to topple over, as many more lives would have been lost.

And when the buildings went down, my GOD picked up almost 6,000 of His
children and carried them home with Him. Reassuring His frightened
children that the worst was over and the best was yet to come.

He sat down and cried that 19 of His children could have so much hate
in their hearts. That they didn't choose Him, but another god that doesn't
exist, and now they are lost forever.

He sent His children that are best trained for this disaster and had them
save the few that were still alive, but unable to help themselves. And then
sent many others to help in anyway they were needed.

He still isn't finished though, He held the loved ones that were left behind
in His arms. He comforts them daily. His other children are given the strength
to reach out to them and help them in anyway they can.

And I believe He will continue to help us in what is to come. He will give
the people in charge of this great nation the strength and the wisdom to do
the right thing. He would never leave us in our time of need.

So when anyone asks, "Where was your GOD on September 11", you can say
"everywhere"! And yes, although this is without a doubt the worst thing
I have seen in my life, I see God's miracles in every bit of it.

I keep praying for those who don't believe in GOD, every chance I have. I
can't imagine going through such a difficult time and not believingin GOD.

Life would be hopeless.

WELCOME AT RAINBOW BRIDGE
September 11, 2001
by Alexander Theodore, Bouvier
Fourth year resident

On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, there was an unprecedented amount of
activity at the Rainbow Bridge. Decisions had to be made. They had to be
made quickly. And, they were. An issue, not often addressed here, is the fact
that many residents really have no loved one for whom to wait. Think of the
pups who lived and died in hideous puppy mills. No one on earth loved or
protected them. What about the many who spent unhappy lives tied in backyards?
And, the ones who were abused. Who are they to wait for? We don't talk about
that much up here. We share our loved ones as they arrive, happy to do so.
But we all know there is nothing like having your very own person who thinks
you are the most special pup in the Heavens.

Tuesday morning a request rang out for pups not waiting for specific persons
to volunteer for special assignment. An eager, curious crowd surged excitedly
forward, each pup wondering what the assignment would be. They were told by a
solemn voice that unexpectedly, all at once, over 4,000 loving people had left
Earth long before they were ready. All the pups, as all pups do, felt the
humans' pain deep in their own hearts.

Without hearing more, there was a clamoring among them - "May I have one to
comfort?" "I'll take two, I have a big heart." "I have been saving kisses
forever." One after another they came forward begging for assignment. One
cozy-looking fluffy pup hesitantly asked, "Are there any children coming? I
would be very comforting for a child 'cause I'm soft and squishy and I always
wanted to be hugged." A group of Dalmatians came forward asking to meet the
Firemen and be their friends. The larger working breeds offered to greet the
Police Officers and make them feel at home. Little dogs volunteered to do what
they do best, cuddle and kiss. Father Mike got a special little Yorkie
for his very own.

It was difficult to determine who was comforting whom the joy was so
complete! Dogs who on Earth had never had a kind word or a pat on the head,
stepped forward and said, "I will love any human who needs love." Then all
the dogs, wherever on Earth they originally came from, rushed to the Rainbow
Bridge and stood waiting, overflowing with love to share - each tail
wagging an American Flag.

Subject: Positive Statistics

By now everyone has heard the death toll and the reports of the destruction
from the terrorist attacks on the US. These were deplorable acts that we will
never forget. But now is a time to look at the other side of the numbers
coming out of New York, Washington and Pennsylvania. The sad but somewhat
uplifting side that the mainstream media has not reported yet - the SURVIVAL
rates and some positive news about the attacks.

THE BUILDINGS

The World Trade Center
The twin towers of the World Trade Center were places of employment for some
50,000 people. With the missing list of just over 5,000 people, that means 90%
of the people targeted survived the attack. A 90% on a test is an "A".

The Pentagon
Some 23,000 people were the target of a third plane aimed at the Pentagon.
The latest count shows that only 123 lost their lives. That is an amazing
99.5% survival rate. in addition, the plane seems to have come in too low,
too early to affect a large portion of the building. On top of that, the
section that was hit was the first of five sections to undergo renovations
that would help protect the Pentagon from terrorist attacks. It had recently
completed straightening and blast proofing, saving untold lives. This attack
was sad, but a statistical failure.

THE PLANES

American Airlines Flight 77
This Boeing 757 that was flown into the outside of the Pentagon could have
carried up to 289 people, yet only 64 were aboard. Luckily 78% of the seats
were empty.

American Airlines Flight 11
This Boeing 767 could have had up to 351 people aboard, but only carried 92.
Thankfully 74% of the seats were unfilled.

United Airlines Flight 175
Another Boeing 767 that could have sat 351 people only had 65 people on board.
Fortunately it was 81% empty.

United Airlines Flight 93
This Boeing 757 was one of the most uplifting stories yet. The smallest
flight to be hijacked with only 45 people aboard out of a possible 289
had 84% of its capacity unused. Yet these people stood up to the attackers
and thwarted a fourth attempted destruction of a national landmark, saving
untold numbers of lives in the process.

IN SUMMARY
Out of potentially 74,280 Americans directly targeted by these inept cowards,
93% survived or avoided the attacks. That's a higher survival rate than heart
attacks, breast cancer, kidney transplants and liver transplants - all common,
survivable illnesses.

Pass this information on to those in fear. Don't fear these terrorists.
The odds are against them.
