What's Your Hedgehog's Name?

"Pages to Share the Name of Your Hedgehog(s)"
2002 & 2003

Wahoo is a salt and pepper African Pygmy and beautiful at that! We named her such because I will be departing for the University of Virginia in due time, and that is the nickname of the mascot. She will be our own dorm mascot. Perhaps the "Lawn" will become hedgehog territory.

Booda is a 2 month old female Chocolate Chip Snowflake named after I picked up a stuffed Booda hedgehog dog toy at PetCo; my husband and I also like Booda because it goes very well with Boo Boo, our Meyers parrot. We also have many statues of Buddha all over our house!

Hi there, I love your site! I read the whole thing all last night, then this morning I went out and you guessed it, I bought a hedgehog! For some reason, her name came naturally to me. I was driving out of the pet store parking lot and I said, "You need a name. What's your name little girl?" And instantly, it came to me. Hedy. So I'm spending day number one with my sweet girl, Hedy.

I have a sweet little female cinnimon named Maggie. When I first got her I thought she was a he (I named her Sonic) but then I found out she was a she and I changed her name!

I named my little boy hedgehog Reiko, as in Japanese it means "sharp and pointed or knife-like". Reiko has been heard of all over the town and has been our mascot for the Destination Imagination compitition.

Spariticus is a 6 month old chocolate African Pigmy hedgie. I originally had one named Oscar, what a mistake. Like his cartoon counterpart, he was very grumpy. I got the name Sparticus because I was watching the movie and then it came to me. As Spariticus so far so good, and he hasn't tried to do the gladiator thing yet. He's my first one' we'll really second, but I will hopefully grow more as time goes.

My wife, Lissa, purchased my first hedgie for me for my birthday this year. I turned 24 on March 7 and on the 10th we drove from North-West Tennessee to Shreveport Louisiana to get him. He is a Salt-and-Pepper African Pygmy. We named him Brillo after having an online contest with no winners. Sonic was about the only answer given. We decided on Brillo on our own, by the rough exterior he tries to impose.

I have an energetic little guy named Quincy. I named him after reading David McCullough's current John Adams biography. I like the name, and it sounds sharp, somehow. The runner up (which was proposed by my former roommate) was The Spirit of St. Louis, after our departed salt and pepper friend, Lewis.

We name our Algerian hedgehog Zumi, short for Harainezumi, which means "spiny rodent" in Japanese. She came from Kansas, so my friend suggested Toto, but it didn't seem right.

My 9 year old has an African pygmy hedgehog named Knarl. He found the name in the Harry Potter book on mythical beasts. A knarl is a mythical hedgehog that "muggles" mistake as a regular hedgehog. Knarls turn evil when given milk! Our Knarl loves milk.

We have a wonderful male heggie named Dinsdale after the Monty Python skit where a monster size hedgehog terrorizes a town by popping his head up between buildings and saying "Dinsdale".

I have had 29 hedgehogs in all, but I will only explain my favourites.
Makonya and Mama Chiku are my newest arrivals. I named them just after returning from Africa. Makonya is a Kikuyu word that means "belly button". Mama Chiku's was a small restaurant we ate at in Kenya. The name was fitting because she was pregnant when I bought her and now she is a mama.
Timbit was named after the Canadian word for donut holes. He looked like a coconut Timbit when I first got him because he was so small and rolled up. Also, I named him after Tim the sorcerer from Monty Python's "The Holy Grail".
Tripod was a rescue hedgehog who is no longer with me. I named her that because I am a photography student, and because she only had 3 legs. Big Mama received her name after she ballooned up to 1lb 8oz and had 19 babies.
Norman was a rather unintelligent hedgehog that used to pee on everything. One night I was carrying a hedgehog home when a smelly drunk man came up to me and slurred "yoo shud name a hedgehog Nooooorman after me.."
Doofy was another stupid hedgehog that used to dump all his water out and sleep under his box instead of in it. He walked around with his head quills down and always bumped into stuff.
Wally was named after a roomates' x-boyfiend, and from the guy from Dilbert. Quazimoto was born funny-looking and was not being well taken care of by Big Mama. She was raised by another hedgehog, but was always scared to leave her cage. She also had a hump on her back.
Smurfette was the only female in her litter.
I also had Captain, Kooshkin, Georgia, Zoey, Zulu, Hecter, Sarah,Isabelle, Kim, Diane, Sonic, Snoflake, and Number 2. Some of them I named, others were named after people bought them, Some the Vet named, and some came with their names. Future names that I may use for my new litter (born today) include: Linus- because hedgehogs like their blankies.
Harrison- After the French word for hedgehog "herisson"
Also Ewok, Asterix, Bubbles and Bill. (I have no idea why)

I have a 2 year old albino hedgie named SNOWBALL. He is white with pink ears and eyes, obviously, but he is a little butter ball so Snowball seemed a good choice. He is a sweety and likes to touch my nose with his to say, "Hi." We love him soooo much.

My hedgehog is named Tetsaiga. He is named that because he has all these little sword type things. The name Tetsaiga is from the Japanese show InuYasha. Tetsaiga is the sword that InuYasha carries around with him in fuedal Japan.

Our little female African Pigmy hedgehog is name Thorn. Thorn was originally our male name but we lost him the first night. He had cancer. So we got our little female. When she is fiesty, she is called Monstrena, and the name fits.

My current little boys name is Wilber. That was his name when I got him from a former owner. My other little boy (may he rest in peace 1994-2000) was named Huff-N-Puff. We called him HP for short (to protect his masculinity). The vet always referred to him as huff-n-puff and sniff-n-snort.

I have two hedgehogs which I recently got as a birthday present. I have one female and one male. My female hedgie's name is Antoinette, I named her for really no reason at all I just like the name. My male hedgies name is Norbert, my friend named him. She was going to name him Bert but I didn’t like it so she changed it to Norbert.

My dear, dear, male krimpvarkie (Africaanse), Ci-Wei (Chinese), or just plain Hedgie is called Bertie Pibbs. "Bertie" came from the P.G. Wodehouse boox, & also from a county/town not far from where I purchased him. As for "Pibbs", Mr. Pibb is a popular Southern soda, basically Dr. Pepper.

I named my Hedgehog Hiccupus Rex. After MANY suggestions (including "microwave" and, of course "sonic") I decided on Hiccup after seeing him jump the first couple weeks I had him. My boyfriend, who bought the hedgehog for me for Valentine's Day, really liked the name "Rex," so we creatively combined the two to come up with Hiccupus Rex.

Hi, my name is Ismene and together with my husband Salvatore we are the happy ownres of a hedgehog named Otzi. Otzi was found in the middle of the road in December 2002 at 4.30a.m. We have decided to call him Otzi after the discovery of the man on ice found in 1991 on the Italian Alps (Oztal Alps). In the future we would like to own a female hedgie. Being from the island of Malta Europe hedgies are easy to find in the country side.

I have one hedgehog that I recieved for my 16th birthday. She's about 8 months old, and her name is azora. One day I was in orchestra and my teacher was telling us about szoras, and I thought that was the coolest name. But I ended up naming my hedgie azora.

My little man was named Slippy, because my boyfriend got him for me and that is my boyfriends nickname. Slippy was rescued from a pet store, where they had given him the name Hogzilla because he was so huge and scared people. Unfortunately, Slippy died last month due to a heart attack. I would like to get another one though, as they are the perfect pet for people with Asthma.

I have an 8 week old female hedgehog I named Lola. There is no paticular reason I named her that. My family wanted to name her Lily, so I guess I plea bargained.

I was just looking at your site and thought I'd tell you the name of my new little one. I got him today! His name is MIYAGI...like the Master in Karate Kid!!! My husband named him because my husband is really involved in martial arts and said that Miyagi looks like he could fight anyone with those quills that he has.

My hedgehog's name was Henryetta. I named her that because it started with the letter "H" just like hedgehog. Then we got a male and I named him Henry. they had 3 babies later on. Their names were Happy, Hairy, and Hula. Don't ask me why I picked Hula I just couldnt think of anymore words! I like names that start with "H" as you can see. unfortunately we had to give all the babies up and the father. We kept the mother but she died last December. :( I miss her very much. We are going to start breeding hedgehogs as soon as I get my license! Hopefully everything will turn out well. henryetta had 2 litters of babies. she also had a stomach tumor and they couldnt operate on her because of where the tumor was. She lived for 7½ years. She would have died if they operated on her.
