It is the painful duty of the Star as a chronicler of passing events to chronical the death of another one of those mothers in Israel whose name has been a household treasure in Palo Pinto and Young Counties for forty years, and whose labors in the vineyard of the Master were coequal with the advent of Christianity in Palo Pinto, Jack and adjoining counties. Among the first pioneers, the name of Grandma Jowell was universally beloved and almost idolized. Whenever her missions of mercy were called for she was ever ready to respond to suffering humanity. She was universally looked upon as the messenger of mercy, always in sympathy with the suffering and oppressed of
every class. Grandma Jowell raised a large family of honorable sons and daughters and an extensive progeny of grandchildren. Grandma Jowell cherished the hope that she would live to attend one more reunion of Old-Settlers, which convened July 22nd at Mineral Wells. But alas we are again reminded that in life that death is ever in our midst. This good old mother of 82 years was
summoned to appear before the giver of all mercies on July 21, 1896, so the writer was informed, while sitting in the door at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Metcalf. Her remains were interred in the Strawn Graveyard.

Mrs. Ruby Castle Cross, 63, of Pueblo, a former resident of Basalt, Craig and New Castle, died at 7:15 P.M., Saturday, following a long illness. Mrs. Gross, the former Ruby Jowell, was born in Tulia, Texas. She is survived by two sons, Ernest and Ira Rhodes of Denver, four daughters: Mrs. Arthur "Mae" Vasten of Basalt; Mrs. Joseph "Jeanne" Burke of Rifle and Mrs. Verne "Betty" Crinfield of Pea Ridge, Ark; four brothers: Art Jowell of Aspen, Mel and Clifford Jowell of New Castle and Jason Jowell of Price, Utah; two sister: Mrs. Vivian Rescola of Gunnison and Mrs. Charles "Tennie" Mason of Steamboat Springs, and 14 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Wednesday in Farnum's Chapel. The Rev. Ottto B. Duckworth will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.

ARTHUR J. JOWELL, 66 a resident of S. H. since 1923 , died at 1:45 P.M., March 20, 1968 at Clagett Memorial Hospital in Rifle. He was born Jan 15, 1902, in Graycliff, Mont. He married Connie Scott in Glenwood Springs in 1934. She is surviving. He is also survived by five sons: Jack and Jim of Aspen; Jerry, Steven and David of Silt; one daughter, Clara Ann MacDouglall of Oakland, Calif; three brothers, Clifford and Mel of Silt and Jason of Price, Utah; and two sisters, Mrs. Tennie Martin of Steamboat Springs and Mrs. Vivian Rescorla of Gunnison. Funeral services were held at 2 P.M., Sat., Mar. 23, 1968, at Farnum Mortuary, Rev. Otto B. Duckworth officiated with burial at Highland Cemetery in New Castle.
