Calvin Childers was born in Ashe County where he resided as a farmer prior to enlisting in Company A. He enlisted on May 1, 1862, at the age of 18. He was discharged in February, 1863, after providing a substitute. Childers reenlisted in November, 1863. He was promoted to corporal on December 14, 1863, and was killed during the battle of Spotsylvania Court House on May 12, 1864. Corporal Childers has a memorial stone in the Jackson Testerman Cemetery in Ashe County, North Carolina.
