Alexander L. Cable was born in Watauga County and enlisted there at age 19 on September 18, 1861, in Company E. He was captured during the battle of Spotsylvania Court House (May 12, 1864), and taken to Point Lookout, Maryland. On August 10, 1864, Cable was transferred to Elmira, New York. He was released on June 23, 1865, after taking the oath. Private Cable is buried in the Tyrola Community Cemetery in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma.
