Adam Black resided in Gaston County and enlisted in Iredell County at age 23 on August 12, 1862.  He was captured at or near Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, on July 3-5, 1863. He was first confined at Fort Delaware and on October 15-18, 1863, transferred to Point Lookout, Maryland, where he died on August 11, 1864, of unknown causes.  Private Black is buried in the Confederate Cemetery at Point Lookout.
