Peter Q. Barnes resided in Alexander County and enlisted at Camp Vance on March 7, 1864, in Company G. He was wounded during the battle of Reams Station (July 1864), captured at or near Fort Stedman, Virginia, March 25, 1865, and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland.  He took the oath and was released on June 23, 1865.  Private Barnes is buried in the Munday-Teague Cemetery in Alexander County, North Carolina.
