Jesse Brown was born in Ashe (Watauga) County and resided there as a farmer prior to enlisting in Company B at the age of 22 on September 14, 1861. He was mustered in as a Sergeant and was reduced to the ranks in March - June 1862. Brown was wounded during the battle of Gaines Mill on June 27, 1862. He died in a hospital in Richmond, Virginia, of his wounds on July 15, 1862. Private Brown is buried in the Oak Wood Military Cemetery in Richmond, Virginia.
