The first record of Lawson's Chapel is of a one room log cabin, built on land donated by the Lawson family.

The present structure was built in 1902-1905 on Indian Creek Road. Because of flooding caused by the building of Douglas Dam creating Douglas Lake, the building was moved to its present location. This offers a beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains and the lake.
