Organizations That Support/Promote Attachment-Style Parenting

[*] Attachment Parenting International Their mission statement...

Attachment Parenting International is a coalition of concerned individuals, professionals, and grassroots organizations. We advocate attachment parenting methods that develop and fulfill a child's need for trust, empathy, and affection to create secure and enduring relationships. We are committed to the protection of the affectional rights of children: the right of enduring human partnerships, the right to be nurtured and protected by family or community, the right to realize fully their human potential. We strongly believe that attachment parenting methods not only strengthen families but are a uniquely simple and cost-effective way to aid in the prevention of child abuse, behavioral disorders, criminal acts, and other serious social problems.

[*] Empathic Parenting Journal of the Canadian Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children; has articles dealing with the serious long-term consequences of the inadequate nurturing of children under the age of three.

[*] The Natural Child Project Parents will be encouraged to treat their children with respect by this wonderful website that boldly proclaims, "All Children Behave as Well as They are Treated." A few of it's highlights include articles written by Jan Hunt, Alice Miller, and Naomi Aldort; a parenting advice column; an important book written by James Kimmel, Ph.D., called "Whatever Happened to Mother?"; and the Global Children's Art Gallery.

[*] La Leche League International If you currently breastfeed a child and/or are pregnant and would like to breastfeed your baby, this web site is a must-see. La Leche League (on this website and in person) offers help, encouragement, and support. Their site has a useful web site search that helps you locate information on topics important to you. They provide a help-form you can fill out and on-line LLL meetings in which you can participate. While the goals they support are ap in nature, you do not have to follow a certain parenting style to benefit from La Leche League. You will be encouraged to "take what you need and leave the rest" and to follow your heart.

[*] The Couple to Couple League International The Couple to Couple League is "an international, interfaith, non-profit organization dedicated to teaching Natural Family Planning (NFP) to married and engaged couples." While what they teach has a definite Catholic perspective, you do not have to be Catholic to benefit from the excellent encouragement and information they offer to those who wish to practice a style of natural family planning that is very ap. They call it "natural mothering." This involves ecological breastfeeding, the family bed, and no use of any artificial nipples.

[*]Gentle Christian Mothers

[*] ***Note*** I do not link to the Aware Parenting Institute because I have many concerns regarding the parenting style taught by Aletha Solter, Ph.D. I do not feel that this parenting style promotes attachment. For more information please read the following articles:
