In the near future I will add a page to tell you about my family. We are Oregon Pioneers since 1849. I have the Osgood family traced back to 1595 in England. The Kay's settled in the Chicago area for a time and watched it burn. Then they moved to Minnesota.

First I will share my BROWN history with you...

THE OREGON PIONEERS

Milton Brown and Christiana Brown came to the Oregon Territory sometime after 1846. Milton Brown's name first appreared on the Clackamas County Register in 1849. He put in for a Donation Land Claim which was settled in 1851 near Oregon City.

In searching out family records I have found the Brown family had been in Missouri in the 1840's since several of their children were born there according to census records. My great-great grandmother, Suzannah Brown was born in Missouri in 1840 as was her brother, Thomas Jefferson Brown in 1846. A younger brother, George W. Brown was born in Oregon in 1849. So the Brown family moved from Missouri to Oregon sometime between 1846 and 1849.

I have seen the US Census of Clackamas County on microfilm at my local library showing Milton Brown an family on the October 1850 census. It was such a thrill to see the actual census and the names I had come to know and love, right before my very eyes. The census listed Christiana Brown, Milton's wife as Chesta A. I believe this was either a mistake in the writing of the census taker or possibly the legibility of a 150 year old on microfilm just looked that way. I have not been able to obtain a hard copy of that microfilm page. It was listed as Registration #276.

In searching the US Census for 1860 it appears the Brown family was not in Clackamas County at that time. There was another Milton Brown and family but the ages and names of his spouse and children were not matching. As of this date I have been unable to locate Milton and Christiana Brown after the 1850 census.

Suzannah Brown, my line, was married to William Risk Connor in Oregon City in 1855. She ws 15 years of age at the time. With this information I am able to determine that the Brown family was most likely still in Clackamas County in 1855.

Milton and Christiana Brown are buried in the Oddfellow Cemetary in Lakeview, Oregon. Milton died in November 1904 near Lakeview, in Silver Lake, Oregon. Christiana Brown died on August 6, 1884 in Summer Lake, Oregon. I have not been able to make the several hundred mile trip to Lakeview to visit the cemetary but hope to some day.

Having no family letters, diaries or written stories I can only presume that Milton and Christiana Brown and their 5 children left Missouri sometime after the birth of Thomas Jefferson Brown in October 1846 and traveled to Oregon by wagon. Since little George W. Brown was born in Oregon in 1849 and Milton Brown was on the Clackamas County Register in 1849 they were among the ......
