More About Us...

Us, 7/4/96 We live in a small home in Worthington, Ohio with our dog, Guy, and several parrots, Sparky (an umbrella cockatoo), Saba (a green-cheeked Amazon), Scarlett and Beau, (peach-faced lovebirds), Tony and Cleo (Fischer's lovebirds), and Scarlett and Beau's current crop of babies.

We were married November 26, 1994, just six months after our first "severely visually impaired" date (Well, it couldn't be called a blind date, since we had met once before briefly!) at the Pink Floyd concert in Ohio Stadium in May. Our wedding was held at St. Michael Church and our reception at the historic Worthington Inn. In commemoration of that first date we hold a Memorial Day weekend cookout each year featuring North Carolina style pulled pork barbecue, Sandy having originated in the Tarheel State. Our honeymoon was delayed until the following summer, so that it would coincide with a concert tour by the Worthington Civic Band (Michael is a member) of Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, and London, as part of the Allied Musical Salute to the World Liberation, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Paris was by far our favorite city on the tour and we plan to return there in a few years, revisiting some of our favorite sites and seeing a lot of new ones, spending a few days in the Louvre and the Musée d'Orsay. We also want to see the city from the top of the Eiffel Tower and the steps of Le Sacre Coeur. We'll have a few drinks in famous Harry's Bar, hang out at a few jazz clubs and sidewalk cafes, and hear the organs of Notre Dame, Saint-Roch, La Sainte Chapelle, and Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Browsing the Sunday morning bird mart on the Ile de la Cité, buying a book or two at Shakespeare & Co., and dropping by Raoul et Curly to restock Sandy's supply of Chanel No. 19 are also on our "must do" list.

Needless to say, we enjoy computers, the internet, and the Web. We have met many wonderful people in this way from countries as far apart as Canada, Australia, and Germany, and now correspond with them regularly. Please visit the home page of our good friend from Göttingen, Germany, Gaby Kolb, if you enjoy seeing photos of some very interesting and beautiful cats.

We have recently been trained to be adult literacy tutors, assisting people who want to improve their reading and writing skills. There are many people throughout the world who, for various reasons, do not have the literacy skills that they want or require in order to live the kinds of lives that they desire. There is a great need for more people willing to invest the time and effort to become tutors. If you feel you might be interested, please contact a library near you for information on nearby adult literacy centers.

If you enjoy reading as much as we do, you must be happy to find those unusual books at great prices. Enter a title, author's name, or subject word in the search box below to connect to the database of Amazon.com, the world's largest bookstore.
