Mom...There's nothing to do!!!

Make a Hairy Harry

Things you will need:

a quart milk or juice carton
    scissors
    ruler
    pencil
    construction paper
    tape or glue
    markers or crayons
    potting soil
    radish seeds

1. Wash out the milk or juice carton and cut it in half so that the bottom piece is about 4 inches high.

2. Draw a 4- by 12-inch rectangle on a piece of construction paper and cut it out. Glue or tape the paper around the carton. Use markers or crayons to draw a face on Harry. The top of the carton will be his hairline so draw his face accodingly. It may even be easier to do Harry's face before you put it on the carton.

3. Put potting soil in the carton approximately 3/4 of the way full. Then sprinkle radish seeds over the soil. Push the seeds lightly into the soil and lightly cover with a another thin layer of top soil. Water lightly.

4. Put Harry in a sunny windowsill and keep the soil moist. In about 4 or 5 days, Harry will be hairy. As his hair grows, you can give him a haircut with a pair of scissors by trimming off of the top.

Beaded Necklace

Things you will need:

    Magazine pages or wrapping paper
    scissors
    glue
    ruler
    toothpicks
    Dental floss

1. Cut rectangles and triangles that are 1 to 2 inches wide and 2 to 4 inches long from colorful magazine pages or wrapping paper. Foil wrapping paper makes really fancy beads. Make a variety of shapes and sizes as these will determine the shape and size of the beads.

2. To make the beads, lay the paper shapes on the table with the colorful side facing down. Put a toothpick at the short end of the rectangle shaped paper and at the base or widest part of the triangle shaped paper. Roll the paper around the toothpick tightly. Apply glue to the edge of the paper and remove the toothpick. Do this for as many beads as you want to make.

3. When the glue is dry on all of the beads, thread them onto a piece of dental floss. You can make a matching bracelet or anklet, too.

3. Crush the cereal using a rolling pin or large can or other heavy item.

4. Peel the bananas and cut in half.

5. Insert a popsicle stick into the cut end of each banana. Set aside.

6. Place semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave safe bowl and heat for approximately 30 seconds on high. Stir the chips, then microwave for another 10 - 15 seconds.

    PermEnamel paint, conditioner and sealer
    Paintbrushes
Scraps of felt for backing the tiles
    Glue
    Pencil

    2. Use patterns or just paint freely. You can use the paint brushes or use the sponge. Cut out different shapes. Be creative.

    3. After all the paint is dry, paint another coat of sealer. Let dry.

    4. Cover and glue a piece of felt to the back of the tile.

These activities will be added on to each week, so check back often. And don't forget that these things are just as fun for you do with your child as well as an independent activity for him or her. Supervision is always recommended for younger children.
