Daddy

The Everlasting Light

Those we love
must someday pass
beyond our present sight...
must leave us
and the world we know
without their radiant light.
But we know that like a candle,
their lovely light will shine
to brighten up another place
more perfect...more divine.
And in the realm of Heaven,
where they shine
so warm and bright,
our loved ones live forevermore
in God`s eternal light.

My dad was born on February 25, 1919 in a small town in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. As an only child, he was expected to help out his dad with the farm work. In 1940 he married my mom, Ermina, and they had five children, Iva, Barbara, Eddie, Bill and Kathleen.

In 1944 he joined the Air Force and served as a gunner on a B-24. After having completed 17 missions over Europe, he was awarded the Air Medal with Oakleaf Cluster.

His hobbies included photography, and video taping. He also loved to hunt and fish. I believe that his favorite thing to do was being an ambulance driver. He served 35 years as a volunteer ambulance driver, 15 years as a part-time policeman and 10 years as president of the Wellsboro Ambulance Association.

During this time, he was also certified in chemical testing for intoxication. He had received over 45 certificates of service and/or training. His volunteer services began May 5, 1964, when he was voted into the volunteer fire department and ambulance service. In 1999, he became the first life-time member of the ambulance service.

During his service, it it estimated that he made more than 10,000 ambulance trips and drove over 100,000 miles on these trips.

As you can see, my dad was a busy man. Not only was he a part-time photographer, part-time policeman, an ambulance driver but he also worked full-time at the Bordens Milk Plant and retired in 1981 after 40 years and 8 months of service.

My dad died in March of 1999, just two weeks after his 80th birthday. Daddy, I will always love you and your memory will always stay in my heart.

Jesus Loves You

God saw he was getting tired,
and a cure was not to be,
So He put His arms around him
and whispered, "Come with Me".

With tearful eyes we watched him suffer
and saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly,
we could not make him stay.

A golden heart stopped beating,
hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

"For God so loved the world
that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in Him
should not perish
but have everlasting life."
