Little Kitty

Little Kitty is the old man cat at our house. He was a feral cat that decided the pickings were better on our porch than in the wild.

That summer of 1992 we had 13 cats.... 4 female cats and assorted kittens for which we were trying to find homes. We certainly did not need another cat. Little Kitty just blended right in with the rest around the food pan and it took us awhile to realize that there were 3 yellow striped cats instead of just 2.

Little Kitty was smaller in size than any of the other cats so the family would refer to him as "that little kitty" and I refused to name him because I did not intend for him to become a member of our family. He was so wild that he wouldn't let anyone touch him but one day when I opened the door and the other 13 cats ran in the house so did Little Kitty. We had a heck of a time getting him back out the door that day. But over a period of several months he became more at home and would allow us to touch him and even pick him up. It then became apparent that he had become part of our family but by that time it was too late to give him a proper name. He was already "Little Kitty".

The week of my 40th birthday Little Kitty had his surgery and he and I went into seclusion together at my sister's vacation condo to commiserate our individual situations. That week he wormed his way into my heart and bonded to me with Superglue.

Over the years Little Kitty has changed from a feral cat into a psycho cat that loved his family but hid under the bed when strangers were around into a traveling cat that rides on my shoulder as I drive down the highway and leans out the window to check out the occupant of every tollbooth along the way.

Sadly, Little Kitty was diagnosed FIV positive in 1999 but he continues to thrive and play the part of Uncle Little Kitty to the other members of our feline family.
