Footnotes:

  1. With special thanks to Hein Bruins, Brigitte Gastel Lloyd, Netty Leistra, Clara Rodríguez Álvarez and Paul Theroff.
  2. Within the Royal Family of the Two Sicilies there is a great dispute whether or not this renouncation is valid. Prince Carlo's descendants argue that the renunciation clearly applied only in the case that Prince Carlo or his descendants should succeed to the Spanish throne. Various interpretations have been made of the acts and statutes involved, and the dispute seems to be without a definitive resolution. Therefore there is a great dispute about the question who is the Head of the Family. If the renunciation is valid, the Head of the Family is HRH Prince Ferdinand Duke di Castro. If the renouncation is not valid, the Head of the Family is HRH Prince Carlos Duke di Calabria.
