Jonathon trying to maintain the pace on his way to 4th place in the National U/18 8km Walk in 1989.
Start of U/18 8km walk at 1989 Roadwalking Nationals, held in Wanneroo.
Left to right; the national team title winners in this race; Jonathon, Glen, Michael.

This is the entry point to webpages about some of the various interstate travel trips

wasted money on?made as a result of his dream of being the best racewalker possible for the glory of the Creator Triune. Sometimes it feels like its a waste of money since I have never won an individual medal at Nationals (although I did win a gold Australian U/18 8km walk TEAM title with Michael Bisset and Glen Bucar in 1989 and over 25 junior and senior state titles, and broke a few junior state records, and competed in the Sydney Olympic trials for the 20km walk and 50km walk....) or competed for an Australian team, which was my goal, guess I didnt train hard/often enough, look after my fitness enough, and/or wasn't good enough, but I enjoyed trying, and i think it was worth it, and maybe someday yet I will succeed, if I dont retire injured or due to new priorities taking over. I also am convinced that God wanted me to develop and use my ability and interest as a racewalker for His purposes, and I know that has been done and will continue to be done. (In spite of my mistakes, and setbacks, obstacles.) The fact that this has been done is a whole lot more important than achieving my little goals, and always will be.2 ways to live...As one gets older; injury and other priorities issues must be considered. It was also fun travelling to various parts of Australia which I probably wouldnt have had the chance to enjoy, if it werent for my racewalking goals.....travel, and races of some kind, will hopefully continue to be a big part of my life.

Some samples of the photos from the December 1999 Melbourne trip;

Sunrise on the Nullabor (as seen from a moving greyhound bus.).

The town of Meckering which is one of the few WA towns to experience a large earthquake.

The new docklands or Colonial stadium recently built in Melbourne for the AFL etc. as seen from the Rialto Towers.

Display case for the
Rialto Tower runup. WA athlete Sue Malaxos (1996 Olympic Marathon runner and wife of former West Coast Eagles footballer Steve Malaxos) won this event twice. The Rialto Tower in Melbourne is one of the tallest in the world at 253m. Go HERE to see how it compares to the USA's Empire state building, or the Tokyo Tower, and/or to see MORE PHOTOS taken from the Rialto Towers.

The units I stayed in for 3 nights when I was in Melbourne.

At the moment this page is in its infantile stages, so check back soon if you are interested, there will be lots of photos on the individual trip pages.
Its also a chance for me to try out some new html codes I have found...
