Raffles Institution Chess Club


Raffles Institution Chess Club was formed in 1960. Since then, it has been nuturing talented players into grandmasters and national representatives. In the glorious years from 1960 to 1970, Raffles Institution Chess Club performed a remarkable feat by sweeping all golds in the national international chess competitions.

Raffles Institution Chess Club aims to promote chess playing throughout the pupil body and to nuture talented trainees and mould them into excellent chess players.

Since the tremdendous feat from 1960 to 1970, Raffles Institution Chess Club has had a record of other achievements, the most recent ones being: In 1992, the team won gold in the under-14 division and the bronze in the under-17 division. In 1995, our team came in third in the nationals and in 1996 came in first in the under-14 division and runners-up in the under-17 division.

Year 1997 marked a new era in the history of the Raffles Institution Chess Club. Both our U-14 and U-17 teams won the GOLD in their respective divisions. This was a long awaited and tremdendous feat. The U-14 second team also came back with the 5th position.
