Motorist Aid Call Box System

The "Motorist Aid Call Box System" is installed on many parts of Florida's Interstate Highway system and the Florida Turnpike. The call boxes are installed at approximately one mile intervals and provide a direct link to a Florida Highway Patrol Communications Center. The system provides a means of obtaining assistance from the Florida Highway Patrol by pressing specific buttons, such as "service," "police," "medical," and "cancel." A crash with injuries may be reported using the "police" and "medical" buttons. A crash without injuries may be reported using the "police" button. A disabled vehicle may be reported using the "service" button. A fire may be reported using the "police" button. Each call box is labeled with its mile marker location and often times the incident is also reported to the Florida Highway Patrol Communications Center by way of the *FHP cellular telephone system.
