Thank you for visiting the

Unofficial Florida Highway Patrol
Communications Home Page

My name is Ben Clinger. I was the duty officer supervisor at the Venice District Station of the Florida Highway Patrol, Troop F. I retired in October, 2000 and am now in Hawaii. My first duty station was Fort Lauderdale, way back in 1971. I lived in the town of Davie, known back then as having more horses than people. I was broken in by Diane, a wonderful dispatcher who has since become a DMV supervisor. I rode a lot after work and on my days off with a number of troopers. My favorite trooper was "Toad." After Fort Lauderdale, I transferred to Bradenton. Bradenton was and always has been a blast. I believe today's term is "cool." After a while, I left for a brief time. Actually, during the intervening years, I have left and come back a few times. I hold the record for the most 5-year pins!

During my time at Bradenton, I spent lots of time in different locations throughout the Station. I even had a great time in a garbage can. My hero back then was "Morris" the cat. Wow, could Morris wink! After I came back the first time, I returned to work in Pinellas Park, which is located across the "pond" from Tampa. The time spent in Pinellas Park was great. From there, I transferred to Bradenton.

I wish to express my appreciation to Major Ronald D. Getman, Troop Commander, Troop F, for his unofficial approval of this site. In addition, I also wish to express my appreciation to Duty Officer Supervisor R.L. Cloud for his assistance and for providing some patches; to Trooper Kurt Arbogast for taking photographs of me and the Venice communications center. Troop F is a "kewl" Troop.

Now that I am in Hawaii, I am forced to endure the difficulties of living on an island paradise and being among sites that are unique to the island.
