Paradoxes

A paradox is a statement which contradicts itself or implies a situation that is impossible. Here, I have gathered a few amusing ones.


  • what happens if you are in a car going the speed of light and you turn your headlights on?

  • A man is drowning in the fountain of eternal life.


  • Suppose you go back in time carrying a CD of Beethoven's 5th symphony. You meet up with Beethoven himself, and you play the CD so he can listen to it. Beethoven later copies down the music you let him listen to, and uses it to compose his 5th symphony, which in turn is used to make the CD you brought with you. Where does the music come from?


  • Your mission is to not accept the mission. Do you accept?

  • There is a hotel with an infinite number of rooms, and there is one resident in each room. now, an infinite number of people arrive looking for rooms. how does the hotel manager fit all the new residents in?

    Solution:
    the manager tells each current resident to move to the room number which is twice their current room number, so now there are an infinite number of empty rooms as well as an infinite number of full ones.


  • This girl goes into the past and kills her Grandmother. Since her Grandmother is dead the girl was never born, if she was never born she never killed her grandmother and she was born.

  • If the temperature this morning is 0 degrees and the Weather Channel says, "it will be twice as cold tomorrow,"....
    What will the temperature be?


  • There is a boy in a small town whose nose is similar to Pinocchio's (when he lies it grows longer) except that if he tells the truth it grows shorter again (Pinocchio's nose doesn't do this.) If the boy said, "What I'm saying right now is a lie," what happens to his nose?


  • "There are no absolutes."
    If true, then it is itself an absolute, and therefore false. If false, then there is at least one absolute which is NOT this statement.


  • Take a piece of paper. On the one side write : "The statement on the other site is false"
    and on the other site write : "The statement on the other site is true".
    solution : take the piece of paper and form a moebius strip. then there will be only one side!


  • A man is captured by natives.
    They tell him to make a statement. If it is true, he will be hanged.
    If it is false, he will be boiled and eaten for dinner.
    He thinks for a moment and then makes a statement. The natives released him immediately. What did he say?
    "I will be boiled and eaten for dinner."


  • Answer truthfully (yes or no) to the following question:
    Will the next word you say be no?


  • This is a false statement.


  • In a small outback town there is only one lawyer. The law in this town says that he must make the wills of all the people who don't make their own wills.
    Who makes the lawyer's will?


  • There is a sign with a big letter 'A' on it and another sign with a big letter 'B' on it.
    Sign 'A' says that sign 'B' is false.
    Sign 'B' says that sign 'A' is true.
