OUR PHILOSOPHY
ARTS SMART II AND SMART STARTARTS SMART II: TEXARKANA REGIONAL ARTS AND HUMANITIES COUNCIL (TRAHC)
Our Schools are using the Arts Smart II Program through TRAHC of Texarkana to encourage our teachers to use the arts in an effective way to teach our children using their senses (i.e. seeing, hearing, touching). By using these senses our students have a more “hands-on” learning and will be more alert to what is being taught, therefore learning more. By using this program, our teachers are learning that through the arts, they are sparking children’s interests in learning and creating a more positive attitude in their classrooms. It is creating an exciting climate that encourages creativity, one where all students feel included.
This is our school's fifth year to participate in the program. A program which has been recognized nationally and regionally as an innovative model for arts education. TRAHC provides a year-long program where “Arts Smart II Artists” visit our campus to encourage our children to use their senses and learn through the arts. These artists may be storytellers, dancers, poets, musicians, and actors.
By using the arts to learn, our students will develop more creativity and a lifelong love of the arts.
SMART START INITIATIVE
The Smart Start initiative is based on the idea that “all children will meet or exceed grade-level requirements in reading and mathematics by Grade 4.”

Our Schools have implemented all aspects of this initiative in their curriculum in order to meet the state requirements. This program focuses on high standards and accountability. It does not tell the local districts how to teach these goals only that they should develop their own curricula in order to reach them.
Arts Smart II is one way our school is meeting these goals. While Arts Smart II and Smart Start are two different things, our faculty is using them together to give our students the best education possible. We should be proud of their efforts and support them in every way possible.
