The great Floyd Phillips was born in Texas in a little town about 30 miles outside of Houston. He played in a band with Johnny Copeland when they were both sixteen, and then went on to play with Little Johnny Taylor, ZZ Hill, Albert Collins, Johnny Adams, O. V. Wright, Lowell Fulson, T-Bone Walker, and many others. He moved to Harlem, NYC in '90 to reunite with the great Johnny Copeland, and stayed with him until Johnny's untimely death.
I've only known Floyd a short time, but I regard meeting Floyd and playing with him as one of the high points of my musical "career". Not only is Floyd a great musician but he is a very cool human being. He is also uncommonly perceptive, as he proved to me when he said, " Charlie , you're not given the credit you deserve." Right On Floyd!
