MOTM '98, Key West
The Woodro's 12th trip - Nov. 3 - 12, 1998

The Woodro (Chip & Raubyn) made their 12th pilgrimmage to Key West - Nov. 3-12, 1998.
Their first trip was in 1992 - one week after Hurricane Andrew.
Andrew left nothing on the Island like Hurricane Georges (Oct. 1998)
This picture is of "House Boat Row" on Nov. 10. Our best wishes and most positive thoughts to the residents of House Boat Row. You are MIGHTY Conchs and we are proud of you all.

Sadly, Smathers Beach was kinda "littered" from the wrath of Georges.
Workers continued to spread the seaweed, dead sponge and coral out. Fresh piles of sand lay in wait to be distributed. A local snack vendor there told us that the workers were hauling off the existing muck and sand and taking it to a giant sifter on the Island. The sifter rids the sand of the debris and the "fresh" sand is delivered right back to the beach.

Tropical Storm Mitch came thru while we were there on Nov. 4 - about half the strength of Georges. We sat, merrily, in Sloppy Joes when we heard the announcement that the schools and the airport were closing at 3:00. We decided to get the Mopeds back to the room. We donned garbage bags and watched store owners on Duval place sand bags at their door fronts. Ever road a Moped thru streets knee-deep in water? Try it - you'll like it!!!

We joined or Parrot Head Club - Smoky Mountain Parrot Heads & the band St. Somewhere for a night time swim in the street at the Southern-Most Point (yes - in the gushing water in the road ). Tropical Storm Mitch was much fun for a bunch of happy Parrot Heads :-) Pic of Barefoot Children In The Rain is of St. Somewhere (a.k.a. St. Mitchwhere).
