Diary
November, 1997

Nov. 1, 1997 -

A damp Autumn day in Tennessee today. The Woodro's mood seems to reflect the weather. Still interested in the roast beef, tiring of us popping his herbal capsules down his throat four time a day. Rests quietly, a tad more coughing today. His cough is not a "true" cough - more like a gagging reflex. It's like there is something caught in his throat and he tries to get it out.

Nov. 2, 1997 -

Another trip to Cherokee Park for The Woodro. Murphy (one of our female Peis) accompanied him. They both had a "jolly ole time" and we stopped for one of his fav. goodies - a roast beef sandwich. The sun was shining today and so was The Woodro's spirit. Very alert and with a had appetite today

Nov. 3, 1997 -

A strange, but welcome evening last night. The Woodro was in rare form. He devoured everything we gave him to eat and he actually played! Such a pleasure to SEA him in a good mood and having such a grand time. Today his appetite continued to grow. Our fingers are crossed. We wish him many more great times!

Nov. 7, 1997 -

Been a hectic week here. We left The Woodro "Home Alone" on Thursday night (Nov. 6), for the first time in a month. (well - he had the rest of "the group" with him). We went to SEA "The Artist formerly known as Prince" perform in Knoxville. A great show indeed - but we fretted our wittle heads off being without The Woodro. Of course - he was A-OK when we returned home - but we worry so.
One minute, he seems depressed and "bored" - no interest in food. The next minute all he wants to do is gobble his gourmet down and "GO IN THE CAR"! I guess our watchful eye is "confused". His gagging cough is random. He enjoyed a brand new bone toy this evening (after Mama Raubyn drove him all the way across town to see Papa Chip at work who had the new toy waiting for him). Oh well, it made The Woodro's evening a GRAND one.

Nov. 10, 1997 -

Nothing new to report except for the fact that The Woodro has received his homeopathy treatment for four (4) weeks now. Compared to a month ago - his appearance is brighter, his spirit is happier and his appetite is better than ever. Just noting the facts.

Nov. 12, 1997 -

We received advise from a particular internet source that oxygen therapy and chlorophyll would be ideal for The Woodro. Tomorrow we will be picking up an oxygen tank and guage from a welding supply company here in town. Our local veterinarian, Dr. Charles Moyers, suggested instead of using an oxygen mask (which would stress The Woodro out), that we pump the oxygen into an enclosed area for him. We are thinking about pitching one of our small tents in the living room and let this be The Woodro's special "oxygen tent" thingy. We will also purchase the chlorophyll tablets tomorrow.

Nov. 13, 1997 -
Tried using the oxygen mask on The Woodro - just to SEA how he would react - well . . . he didn't mind at all, he found it rather amusing. He is now receiving 20 liters of oxygen for a five minute period - three to four times a day. While he lays on the couch, we simply bring the oxygen tank over, slip the mask over his nostrils and talk to him softly. He fell asleep the second time. So we are glad that he does not mind using the mask.

We have also started adding Tumeric to his food.

Nov. 15, 1997 -
"Hired" "Me-maw" (Raubyn's mother), to come and sit with The Woodro while we attended an Elton John concert tonight. The Woodro gets excited at the mention of her name - so thought it would be good for him to SEA somebody else for a change - I know that we must be boring him to death lately.

Nov. 16, 1997 -
On the way to the concert last night, we spotted a small Beagle sitting on the side of the highway - in the cold rain. I thought about this pup thru the whole concert and so did my friend, Michelle, who went with us to the show. We were running late - so did not stop for the pup. Today, Michelle called me on her way to work and told me that the Beagle pup was at the same spot on the side of the highway - but lay dead from being hit by a car. I know this does not pertain to the subject of The Woodro's diary - but just wanted to jot it down to remind me from now on that I should help ALL dogs.
Today The Woodro traveled to Arby's (by car) and conquered their biggest roast beef sandwich. He is perky today and is staring at my while I type this. Better go and entertain him now!

Nov. 19, 1997 -
It has been a cold week here in Tennessee. "Somehow", The Woodro's sweater collection has grown to a grand total of five. I guess he now has one for every day of the work week. His appetite is still good and his favorite time of the day has changed to bedtime when he snuggles in between Maw Raubyn and Papa Chip for his caster oil pack and special chew toy. He sleeps well.
His oxygen treatments are going swell. We think he actually enjoys them. His new favorite food is corned beef. His coughing is less frequent now.

Nov. 21, 1997 -
The Woodro discovered JUMBO WEINERS today! These particular long hot dog thingies are a favorite of his now. We bought some at the grocery for him and then stopped at Hardee's on the way home to give a "fresh" one to him. The food at restaurant drive-thru windows has always seemed much better to him. He likes sticking his head out the car window to observe the drive-thru employee accomplishing his/her food-serving job.

Nov. 23, 1997 -
The Woodro has been kinda "down" this weekend - maybe depressed? Not sure - it's just his mood has not been as bright and happy. So we took him and Murphy to the park this afternoon. Well - his mood changed fast. He drug us uphill, downhill, sideways and actually galloped everywhere. At one point he felt the "call of nature" (he had already ran out of pee-pee on the thirty-second tree), he had to go "do #2" - get it? Anyway the urge hit him all at once - he slid into a pile of leaves, buried neck deep and came back out a "fullfilled" wittle man. Glad to SEA him satisfied.

Nov. 25, 1997 -
The Woodro's good mood has stuck with him. He is well aware that this coming Thursday is Thanksgiving. He is confident that someone in his family will cook the bestest Thanksgiving dinner on the planet for him - chock full of HIS favorite thingies. Well, I reckon he is correct.

Nov. 27, 1997 (Thanksgiving) -
The Woodro chose not to eat his turkey or ham today. Instead he had Augratin potatoes and macaroni and cheese. Hey! Maybe he is following the footsteps of his Veggie mom! He spent a whole hour romping thru the park today. A beautiful East Tennessee day.

Nov. 28, 1997 -
A little worried today about The Woodro. His appetite was not good at all and his mood was "gloomy". Even a ride in the car did not lift his spirits.

Nov. 30, 1997 -
The Woodro's appetite is still not very good. We have cut down his flax oil/cottage cheese combo to just twice a day (instead of three time a day), in case his stomach is upset. But he continues to chase the "invisibles" with the group and to "dance" when spoken to with a cheery voice. Taking him to the park as soon as Papa Chip returns home from work.
