Woodro
Thank you Sherri at The Spot for creating this image for The Woodro

Diary (cont.)

Oct. 10, 1997 -
Purchased the entire list of herbs, minerals, etc. at two local health food/vegetarian stores. Did the grocery-shoppin' thingy also: Fresh veggies (brocolli and carrots), raw nuts, beef and chicken. We have decided to remove all preservatives from The Woodro's diet. Also replaced the tap water in his bowl with mineral water. We have a total of five (5) Shar Pei's in our household - so this "grocery list" got mighty expensive.

We created a "daily planner" to "spread out" the dosages thru the day so The Woodro would not tire from everything all at once. We began the treatment.

Sure wish we had known that The Woodro does not like chicken liver before we bought the whole store out of it. Seems to prefer red meat. We are serving these dishes to him as raw as he will take them.

Oct. 11, 1997 -
Since the appointment at UT, The Woodro's appetite has dwindled considerably. We have added Alfalfa and Zinc to his cottage cheese/flax oil mixture to improve his appetite and purchased a KAL Vitamin B-12 (2500mg) Lipospray to help him metabolize the flax oil.
The Woodro enjoyed a day on the lake today with his Ma and Pa.

Oct. 12, 1997 -
The Woodro's appetite has improved. He is even eating beef liver now. At bedtime The Woodro receives a castor oil/wool cloth pack applied to the area of his right lung for 30 minutes. His spirit still seems ok. We think he is a very patient patient.

Oct. 13, 1997 -
Woodro was taken today to Fountain City Animal Hospital to see Raikaur Khalsa, V.M.D., 5030 N. Broadway, Knoxville, TN 37918, (423) 688-0776. She is a Veterinarian who also specializes in alternative veterinarian medicine. She said we were already doing 95% of what she would have told us to do and said we had done our homework, (see links below). She added two other things, Grape Seed Extract and Bio-Plasma (tissue salts), to Woodro's routine. He now has 1 Grape seed extract daily and 2 Bio-plasma tablets 3 times a day in addition to other treatments.

Oct. 15, 1997 -
Today we received two products we ordered from VAXA - Cancen-Z and Immun-Plus. These will be added to his treatment. The Woodro enjoyed an hours drive around the area in "papa's" (Chip's) truck.

Oct. 16, 1997 -
Today "papa" took The Woodro for a ride in the car around town and they dropped by the office to see "mama" (Raubyn). Really enjoyed the heck out of this adventure. Still perky and alert, although this morning coughed a little going down the stairs.

Oct. 17, 1997 -
Made The Woodro a new sweatshirt for the upcoming chilly fall and winter weather. Seems to like it - it is a Washington Redskins sweatshirt (his fav. NFL team). Coughed a little tonight.

Oct. 18, 1997 -
Spent this perfect fall day weed-eating/clearing out The Woodro's rock garden and pond area. He played supervisor and had another steak for lunch. His appetite seems better in the evening as he will eat some dry and canned dog food . Looking forward to watching his favorite college team "wup-up" on the opponent: Tennessee Vols vs. Alabama's Crimson Tide. GO VOLs!

Oct. 19, 1997 -
The Woodro is waggin' his wittle tail off 'cause the TN Vols beat Bama last night! Today we took him to Cherokee Park. Stopped at Hardee's on the way for his plain cheeseburger. He woofed it down - so stopped again at McDonald's for another one. The Woodro had a nice hour of exploration at the park.
The Woodro has discovered a particular taste for bacon. He seems to be taking a liking to the Flax oil/cottage cheese combo. Hope this is a good sign.

Oct. 20, 1997 -
The Woodro scared us a wee wittle bit this morning. He turned his nose up at his breakfast steak. But by 11:00am, he was running about outside and this evening we "caught him" eating his regular dry dog food out of his bowl. This is the first time in two weeks he has attempted to eat on his own. A great day!

Oct. 21, 1997 -
We are getting our mineral water from Raubyn's sister (Donna). The Woodro calls Donna his "Aunt Kiss-Kiss". He joined us in the car to drive to her house today. The Woodro licked Aunt Kiss-Kiss's nose off. :-)

Oct. 23, 1997 -
The Woodro is "up-and-about" alot more now. He joins the group (our four other Shar-Pei's) in the morning to chase "the invisibles". Rests a little longer in between excursions. His coat and appearance are still gorgeous - just seems a little tired at times.

Oct. 24, 1997 -

A rainy and cold day here in Tennessee. This may have been what brought on a little more couging than usual from The Woodro. His appetite is still very good. Has had four (4) cheeseburgers (mostly raw) today. Added a B-complex capsule once a day to help metabolize the flax oil. Woodro went for 3 "car-car" rides and had a great time. As with human treatments, we are trying our best to give Woodro a PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), trying to let him do all the things he loves to do. For one thing, he LOVES new "smells", so we take him to as many new places as we can and let him leave his "messages". Our friend Sharon Mayers sent a recipe to us for a special treat. We purchased the ingredients today (1 jar (3-1/2 oz) baby food - liver or beef, 1/3 cup wheat germ, 2/3 cup powdered skim milk. Mix the ingredients and drop by the tablespoon onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 14 minutes. Let cool.) Thank you Sharon - we will bake these goodies tomorrow!

Oct. 25, 1997 -

Seems The Woodro is tiring of bacon, steak, turkey, burgers. We are having to place the food between his lips and then he will eat the food. He never did have a big appetite - so we try to remember this when we get dissappointed at his lack of interest in food now. He rested alot of the day, yet was still up with the "group" chasing the "invisibles" whenever the opportunity arrived (about 35 times a day) :-)

Oct. 27, 1997 -

Woodro became a bit chilled today as the temperature dropped here. We took him out (in his old sweater) to pick out a new sweater. He had a plain roast beef sandwich. A local vet said he could susceptible to pneumonia. Checked his temp, just to be on safe side and was found to be normal. Still eating-though sometimes you have to get him started. Also caught him eating the dry dog food again!

Oct. 29, 1997 -

The Woodro's main objective today was to get us to take him somewhere - the car, a walk - just something "new!" please! He "ran into" his sweater to go out. Visited his "me-maw" (Raubyn's mother) who lives next door. Ran all the way home and waited for yet another jaunt. On the downside - The Woodro seems to be coughing more - off and on and only when he first gets up off of the floor.

Oct. 30, 1997 -

We gathered the "group" together this afternoon for a family photo: All five dogs and us (Chip & Raubyn). A simple idea, a simple project - yeah, right . . . dogs don't seem to understand the importance of smiling real perty and sitting still at the same time while Chip ran to join the group in the photo (used the automatic timer thingy on the camera). The Woodro was the best participant in the group. After the mission was accomplished - the camera was accidentally dropped (while trying to break up a disagreement between three particular group members - no names will be mentioned), and it broke - I think we salvaged the film though.
The Woodro is still nibbling at his food goodies and still energetic. Headed out the door now to take him for a car ride around the neighborhood.

Oct. 31, 1997 -

Happy Halloween Woodro! Only TREATS for him today: fresh roast beef and pork chops. The Woodro enjoyed a beautiful clear autumn day in Tennessee. All the "spooks" who rang the doorbell this evening were greeted with The Woodro's MIGHTY barks and growls.
He appears to be thinner than three weeks ago - but the scale shows no difference. Maybe we are just staring at him too much these days?
