COPYRIGHT YOUR
ORIGINAL WORKS!
It's easy to submit to the U.S. Copyright Office and lay
claim to your creative efforts!
The U.S. Copyright Office will send you copyright information and form SR
(Sound Recording) by calling their voice mail at 202-707-9100.
You should receive the following:
Circular 1, Copyright Basics
Circular 7d, Mandatory Deposit Requirements
Circular 56, Copyright for Sound Recordings
(This is the path I took in copyrighting my first recording in January of
1996. If there are any corrections required
please contact APG and let me
know.)
Requirements for Copyright of Recorded Work
Completed form SR
Two copies of your recording. This can be a cassette though more permanent
forms are preferred if available. (CD, LP, DAT tape)
$20.00 check
A whole collection of songs can be copyrighted at one time, so this is a
very inexpensive means by which to lay claim to your creative efforts.
Copyright processing should be completed within 16 weeks, and the copyright
Office suggests that you send your submission by return receipt mail for your
own peace of mind.
Address: Copyright Office, Library of Congress, Washington D.C.,

We all must learn and play by the rules in the new world of internet
publishing, both to protect our own interests and those of the artists we
appreciate. Please become familiar with copyright restrictions on reproduction
of the creative efforts of others. Information on copyright restrictions is
available for the asking on most music newgroups.
