THE 1999 REUNION OF
THE ACADIAN JOHNSON ASSOCIATION
Plans are being made for side visits to Opelousas and the original ancestral grounds for the Louisiana branch of the Johnson/Jeansonne family, the Acadian Village in Lafayette, and other interesting trips. The Louisiana branch of the Acadian Johnson family settled first in Opelousas, when the children of Charles Johnson I were deported to Louisiana, and their families made their homes in the strange new environment.
Johnson/Jeansonne Cajun Crossroads, Inc., a non-profit corporation is taking the responsibility for organization. This reunion is in the planning stages and help is needed to obtain names and addresses of Acadian Johnsons and Jeansonnes throughout the world, as well as to plan reunion activities. IN 1999, LOUISIANA CELEBRATES THE 300 ANNIVERSARY OF HER FRENCH ROOTS. AS PART OF THIS TERCENTENARY, ACADIANS AND CAJUNS FROM AROUND THE WORLD WILL CONVERGE IN SOUTH LOUISIANA BETWEEN AUGUST 1 AND AUGUST 15 FOR THE 2ND ACADIAN WORLD CONGRESS (CONGRESS MONDIAL ACADIEN). IN 1994 THE FIRST ACADIAN REUNION WAS HELD IN CANADA WITH OVER 300,000 PARTICIPANTS OF ACADIAN DESCENT.
THIS TIME AROUND, SOUTH LOUISIANA PARISHES ARE HOSTING THE EVENT,
FOCUSING ON WEEKS OF FAMILY REUNIONS, THEATER AND ART FESTIVALS, HISTORICAL TOURS, CONCERTS AND CONFERENCES. PLANS ARE ALREADY IN PROGRESS TO HOLD
BETWEEN 70 AND 80 ACADIAN FAMILY REUNIONS THROUGHOUT LOUISIANA ACADIAN PARISHES AND GENERALLY DEMONSTRATE LOUISIANA PRIDE IN CAJUNISM.
THE JOHNSON/JEANSONNE FAMILY REUNION WILL BE HELD IN AVOYELLES PARISH, AUGUST 4,5, 6 AND 7 1999. JOHNSON/JEANSONNE CAJUN CROSSROADS, INC., A
NONPROFIT CORPORATION RESPONSIBLE FOR ORGANIZING THE JOHNSON/JEANSONNE FAMILY REUNION IN 1999, WILL HOLD MEETINGS TO DISCUSS PLANS FOR THE
UPCOMING REUNION. THIS FAMILY REUNION IS IN THE PLANNING STAGES AND
HELP IS NEEDED TO OBTAIN NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF JEANSONNES THROUGHOUT THE
