The first reunion of the Johnsons was held in the summer of 1991 to mark the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the Johnsons in 1891 in Sanford, Maine, migrating from the Gaspé peninsula. More than 280 Americans and Canadians attended the meeting, which was planned and organized by Columbia Johnson. That first reunion was the beginning of the gathering of the Johnsons. It was the wishes of the participants to establish an association, and to have a second reunion within five years in Canada. That reunion took place on August 10-11, 1996, in Carleton, Québec on the Gaspé peninsula. The gathering commemorated the settlement of William "Guillaume Billy" Johnson, Jr. in Carleton in 1777. His descendants still live on the ancestral land. (See picture of marker on Reunion page.)
The next Acadian Johnson Association reunion is planned for 1999 in Lafayette, Louisiana in conjunction with the World Acadian Congress (Congrès Mondial Acadien). Watch this site for more information and details.

To group in an association all members of or related to, the Johnson family who wish to do so.
To organize or have conferences, reunions, assemblies, expositions for the promotion, the development and popularization of the history, the genealogy, or other matters relating to the Johnson family.
To encourage all persons, members of or related to the Johnson family to transmit all books, documents, photos, newspaper clippings, and other memorabilia that would add to the history of the family.
To supply the members or related individuals with genealogical information which is in accord with the aims of the association.
To establish a library of the documents given, bought by the association, or offered by its members.
To print, edit, and distribute all publications to fulfill the aforementioned aims.
