Austin the Australian Shepherd.

April 10, 1993 - March 2, 2002

On March 2, 2002 I was left with a huge hole in my heart.  This would be the day that I had to put Austin to sleep.  He was a very special dog to me.  I owe so much of my happiness to him that it cannot be expressed.  He was my best friend and now he is no longer with us.  He will be missed very much.  Words cannot express how much I loved him and will miss him.

Austin was born on April 10, 1993 in Denham Springs, Louisiana.   He was a very happy dog that liked to be around as many people as possible.  He was always happiest when there were many people that would be able to play with him.  His favorite hobbies were playing fetch and catching the frisbee.   He could do that all day and not have another care in the world. He enjoyed being around people and he always craved attention.  He was the brightest and most loving dog I had ever had the opportunity to be around..

Even though he was happy on the outside, he was hurting on the inside.  When he was around 5 he began to develop epilepsy.  The battle with the disease would be one that would last the rest of his life.  The disease was eventually controlled but that was due to large quantities of medication.  Austin also developed hip dysplasia.  He had trouble at times pushing off his hind legs but he was able to walk and run fine.  However the spunk he once had for playing fetch had dwindled.   Towards the end, he developed another condition that he could not overcome.  I took him to the vet and he was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.  My worst fear was upon me that Austin would not be around in the very near future.

There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about him.  He was such a loving boy that needed a lot of attention and no matter how much attention you gave him, he craved more.  He was a beautiful and intelligent dog that did not deserve to have these health problems.   I can try and rest assured that he is now in a happier place and will not suffer anymore.  He is now at peace with other Aussies and friends over the Rainbow Bridge and I pray he is OK.

I thank him for all of the memories and happiness he provided to me over the years.  I will never forget him.
