My first "Mountaineer Pride" moment (that I remember!) was when I was attending a WVU football game at old Mountaineer Field with my father. Danny Buggs ran the length of the field for an especially exciting WVU touchdown. I can remember the exhuberant feeling I had watching (and, I felt sharing) his run. Smiling from ear to ear I hugged my dad at the end of the play!
Later that week, as we watched highlights of the game at home on television, I again saw Danny Buggs make his stupendous run. I noticed, that spliced into the film footage of his run, a WVU fan was acting like a Tazmanian Devil! Upon closer inspection I was amazed that the fan punching her father repeated on the arm and jumping up and down was me -- an elated Mountaineer fan-atic caught up in the mania that surrounds Morgantown during football season! Mountaineer Pride smiled its great face at me!
If you would like to add your Mountaineer Pride moments to our collection, please email me and I will try to add it to the West Virginia Mountaineer Pride area at this site within a week!
The Mountaineer Email Group (MEG) is a means for WVU alumni, students, friends, and fans to exchange news, information, rumors, and opinions about Mountaineer sports. It's a great place to share, especially for those of us so far from the "Country Roads" and our Mountaineer friends! To join the MEG, send an email message to Vernon Bailey at: vernon@wvusports.com and ask to be added to the group. Cost to you? Nothing! Mountaineers Are Always free!!!
