The Analytic Rubric
- Dimensions - one or more traits which serve as the basis for judging the student response.
- Indicators - of the various criterion levels are provided to clarify the meaning of each trait or dimension.
- Scale - a scale of values or counting system; usually 3 to 7 points on the scale are used to rate each dimension.
- Standards of excellence - for specified performance levels are accompanied by examples of student work or benchmarks at each level.

To introduce students in a grade 10 English class to assessment, this template and the following rubric were developed:
