Class Comments

In my first year of teaching, I did not show Lucy as an educational tool. I just simply showed the show. Most of the kids did not like it because it was in black and white. Now the kids, who are in 3rd grade, come up to me all the time and tell me how much they love Lucy.

The 2nd Class

With this class, I used Lucy as an educational tool and it went over so well. I suppose they like to see how the clip related to the lesson.
I asked them why they love Lucy so much. They all screamed at one time, "Because she is so funny!" Here is what some of them had to say:

"I love Lucy because she is so funny!" Brittany

"I love to watch her because she makes me laugh so much." Kameron F.
Kameron was in a beauty review, and her mother told her to bow when she went onstage. Kameron told her mom, "No way am I going to bow, and get a charlie horse in my leg like Lucy!"

"I love to watch the one where she gets the charlie horse in her leg and when she sneezes and all those hats come off everybody's head." Michael

"Lucy is so pretty. I love to see when her nose catches on fire." Tyler S.

"I like to see the one where they have the snow fight." Tyler H.

"I love it when she says, "It's a moo moo." Gregory

"I like to see when she falls in the mud." Dustin

A couple of months ago, I received an autographed picture of Lucie Arnaz. I told the kids who she was. They wanted her to come and visit. So, I wrote Lucie Arnaz's secretary and asked her if Lucie would send the class an email or something, because they love Lucy so much. A few weeks later, a fax arrived. The kids were so happy. I made a copy of it so they all could have one. They were just so pleased and proud.

At the end of the day, they like to make up stories. Every one of them ask the storyteller to make up a Lucy story. They usually make up stories about what they've seen, or they'll make up a new Lucy story.

We've also acted like we were on a talk show. I would interview some of them, and they would always refer back to Lucy and some of the things that they have seen.

We were doing a page in our workbook, and they had to draw a picture of something that they wished for. Can you believe that they wished that Lucy would walk in the room??? Some of them drew her picture, and even added the red hair!

We created our own space aliens when we were doing the unit on space. One little girl drew her's and she had written something below it. She said, "Remember - 'It's a moo moo'? WOMEN FROM MARS!" That was what she had written.

The 3rd Class

A new class has arrived. Just like my first class, they love Lucy! It didn't take them long to become Lucy fans. The first clip that I showed them was from "Lucy Tells The Truth," where the knife thrower is throwing knives at her. (The lesson was about always telling the truth) They loved it!

We have a Student of the Week every week. When I ask different ones what their wish is - Jelisha said - To be Lucy
Kaylinn - To go to California to see Lucy
The others have said that they want to meet Lucy. (even after I told them the sad truth)

Some of the kids parents have mentioned to me that at home when some of them play, they are playing Lucy. Amanda and Cheyenne take turns being Lucy and Ricky. *g*

Becca's mother told me that Becca wants her name changed to Lucy. Too cute!!
I'm glad that I can shows these children a positive role model and one terrific show, as opposed to the other things that are on televsion.

"I like Lucy because she's funny. I like when she got on Ricky's show." Michaela

"I like her because she's funny. I like how she got drunk on that movie." Caitlin

"I like Lucy because she's really really hilarious and I like that part where she was shoving the chocolate in her mouth. I like where she was trying to wash that babydoll." Kaylinn

"My favorite thing in the whole world is to watch Lucy. She is funny. I like where she fell out of the trailer. I want to go to California to see Lucy. I like the part where everybody was laughing at Lucy where she first got married, and where Ricky got hit in the door trailer, where the stuff was falling on him." Jelisha

"I admire Lucy because I like her alot, because you do. She is funny. I like the one that she gets her nose on fire." Indie

"I like Lucy because it's funny." Becca

"I love Lucy. My favorite is Vitameatavegamin." Cheyenne

I'm excited to say that Lucie Arnaz sent a fax to this year's class, too! That is so nice of her to do that.

Our local newspaper did an article on the kids and me about our love for Lucy.

The Fourth Year

Katie, who was in my first class, has turned into a major Lucy fan, who has to watch Lucy faithfully. At our school, we had "twin day" for Homecoming, and Katie came to school dressed as ME! She bought a black wig and wore a Lucy shirt and wrote on a tag that she was my twin. I don't think anything could ever top that. I was so touched, it's beyond words.
I've shown a few clips for this new class, and they are starting to love Lucy, too. Most of them had never heard of her. Some of them came in the first week and asked when we were going to watch Lucy. :) ::big grin::

Rusty's mother told me that he came home from school telling her about all the lessons that he has learned from Lucy, like how important it is to tell the truth. He went on to say that "Lucy has taught him a lot of important things." That thrilled me to no end, knowing that the kids are really learning things from watching Lucy - a great teacher!

Some of the children have been complaining that they do not get to watch Lucy everyday!

I dressed as Lucy this year and the kids really enjoyed seeing that.

For Christmas, my class chipped in and bought me a Lucy ornament. I unwrapped it and held up the black box and they all yell, LUCY! I'm proud to say they can read "I Love Lucy."

This class has been "talking" to Lucy when they see her on TV. They are trying to tell her stuff to do. It is so funny watching them. One said, "Be quiet. She can't hear you."

The Fifth and Sixth Year

I've had this class for two years with a K-1 Loop. They love to sing the song "California Here We Come." I sing that in my Lucy show, and I rehearsed before my first show in front of them. Then I brought them the tape to see it. They love that song!

Some of them like to sit and type at the computer and pretend that they are sending email to Lucy.

In one of our books, our story is called "Lucy and the Jellybeans" and that thrills them to death. When we discussed the Y sound ending with an e sound, LUCY was one of the words that they had to read and write.

When I went to California this year, they were highly disappointed that I didn't take them with me!!!

The song you are hearing, "My Heart Will Go On," our kindergarten sang it at the kindergarten graduation 1998.
