What is Astrology?
Astrology holds that an individual's personality and traits are reflective of the position of the planets and Sun at the exact moment when he or she was born. A birth chart is a picture of the sky at the time of birth, and how the properties of those heavenly bodies influence a person. Astrology studies the effects of planets on people. It is used to further self-understanding and enhance the use of free will. Astrology looks at a combination of the many different planetary influences, the softer emotional drives of the moon, the unique strengths of each Sun sign, and each person's thoughts, habits and self-image. It forecasts upcoming events, but doesn't dismiss a person's ability to control their destiny. It allows people to choose either to prepare themselves or sidestep the occurrence.
With the tools of Astrology in hand, it is possible to discover people's hidden potentials,
how people develop relationships with others, and what unconscious thoughts are being
harvested. In addition, Astrology can explain many specific life occurrences: why our
childhood occurred the way it did, how we relate to the opposite sex, how hard or easy it is
for us to overcome difficulties, and how well we notice and grab at opportunities. Overall,
Astrology gives us valuable insight into the individual human psyche and teaches us how to
utilize the unique gifts we were given at birth. Because of this, Astrology's ultimate worth
is how it leads us to self-discovery, self-acceptance, and
what it is that we are to learn in this life. Astrology is
an extremely valuable stepping stone in helping
us become more aware of who we are and how we
are unique as individuals. It is, in essence, these attributes that make Astrology such a

History of Astrology
Astrology is a method of predicting mundane events based upon the assumption that the celestial bodies--particularly the planets and the stars considered in their arbitrary combinations or configurations (called constellations)--in some way either determine or indicate changes in the sub-lunar world. The theoretical basis for this assumption lies historically in Hellenistic philosophy and radically distinguishes Astrology from the celestial omina ("omens") that were first categorized and catalogued in ancient Mesopotamia. Originally, astrologers presupposed a geocentric universe in which the "planets" (including the Sun and Moon) revolve in orbits whose centers are at or near the center of the Earth, and in which the stars are fixed upon a sphere with a finite radius whose center is also the center of the Earth. Later, the principles of Aristotle in physics were adopted, according the which there is an absolute division between the eternal, circular motions of the heavenly element and the limited, linear motions of the four sub-lunar elements: fire, air, water, earth. top

Astrology Today
In the West, Newtonian physics largely eradicated a belief in astrology among the educated, and the practice of what now degenerated into a pseudo-science became increasingly the province of the fraudulent fortune-teller. In countries such as India, however, where only a small intellectual elite has been trained in Western physics, it manages to retain here and there its position among the sciences. Some Indian universities offer advanced degrees in astrology. top
