How I found my brother on the Internet.

Finding a Brother

My dad was married four times.
He married Flossie in 1919, and they had a child Susie. Then he married Dorothy in 1922, the child they had died soon after it was born. He then married Ruby in 1925, they had a son M.L. They divorced soon after M.L. was born therefore he never got to know his father. 1928 he married Susie, my mother, they had ten children before he was killed in January 1948.
The first time I ever saw M.L was around 1954. He had written to an uncle of ours and the uncle had written back to tell him some bad news that his dad was dead but there was some good news too. He had ten brothers and sisters. When he found out that the oldest one was in St Louis, Mo. He set out to find her. When he found her then she brought him to Arkansas to meet the rest of the family.

This is the 1st time we met M.L.

M.L was in and out of our lives for about 12 years and then we didn’t hear from him for many years. For several years after I married, when my family would go on vacations to different towns and states, I would scan telephone books to try to find his name. We didn’t know what ever happened to him, although we often wondered how he was and where he was. Then in 1975 we heard from him again. He and his wife were running a gas station turned around one day and saw our brother Sam who had come the station.
Although some of the brothers and sisters got to renew their acquaintance with him at that time, some of the others did not. Soon he was out of our lives once again.
As the years went by, mom passed away, my oldest sister and brother passed away. We had no way of getting in contact with M.L to tell him of this.
In 1996, the place where I was working got new computers and we learned how to surf on the Internet. Everyone was encouraged to try different ways to use the Internet.
One day as I was searching out names to see whom I could find on the Internet. I had typed in all of my family that I could think of and then it occurred to me that I hadn’t tried to find M.L in several years. I typed in his name on “Infoseek.” His name did not appear. So I tried it again this time with just the last name and the first letter of his first name.
Number 16 on the list came up and there was his name! What a surprise! I wrote down the address and phone number. When I got home that afternoon, I finally talked myself into calling that number and then I got the answering machine with a lady’s voice. I left a message that I might be his youngest sister Mari and if I was would he please return my call.
I was so sure that he was no longer living or maybe didn’t want to make the connection. When I got the answering machine, I was so sad.
So, I went on to take a bath and to wait to see if anyone would call me back. Within 10 minutes after my call, a lady called back and put a message on my answering machine, she said, ”Mari, your brother wants you to call him back as soon as possible.” I jumped out of the tub, threw on my robe and ran to the phone to make that phone call.
Once we found out that he was my brother and I was his youngest sister, what a joyful time we had! What shouting and praising our Lord! I had to tell him the sad news about our sister and brother.
The next day at work, I went through and told everyone that I met throughout the day that I had found my brother on the Internet! Now when I talk about him I say, “you know the one I found on the Internet.”
Our first meeting was in December 1996, my two brothers’ Sam and John and our sister Judy and I went to see him. What a reunion we had getting to know our long lost brother.
Since that time, M.L bought a computer and has not only learned how to set one up, he has also learned how to use the Internet. He has a web page at: http://www.oocities.org/Nashville/Opry/5648.
His web page is of his writings and writings of others that he has collected over the years. We email daily. We thank the Lord that in His time we are finally together.

UPDATE M.L has moved closer and now lives within 20 miles from me. He has a ministery which he does by his web pages and email. If you come to a passage of scripture that you would like help with understanding, he is a minister and would appreciate any one emailing him. He has over 80 folks that he emails on a regular basis.
