| | | | | | | | | | | QUESTION AREA #1: UFO SIGHTED
| | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Now, I want you to imagine, now, that you're just--
| | | | | | | | | | | let's say, just sitting outside. And as you're
| | |X| | | | | | | | sitting outside you look up in the sky, and you see a
| | | | | | | | | | | UFO. Can you see that UFO?
| | | | | | | | | | |RM: (NODS YES)
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right, I want you to tell me what that UFO looks
| | | | | | | | | | | like.
| | | | | | | | |X| |RM: It seems to be a darker blue, and it--it's coming
| | | | | | | | | |X| towards me very, very fast…. And it seems to just skip
| | | | | | | | | |X| off the surface, not quite touching the earth, but
| | | | | | | | | |X| before I know--there's a circle of colored lights
| | | | | | |X| | |X| right below it. And it's almost not a color, it's
| | | |X|X| | | | |X| almost a brightness that--and it's not frightening,
|P| | |2| | |X| | |X| but it's very, very real. (CHUCKLE) And I look at
|P| | | | |X| | |X|X| it and wonder why--it just seems so natural to
| | | | | | | | | |2| see it there. And it's quiet and it's--small.
| | | | | |X| | |X| | It's much smaller than I thought it should be.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How large would you say it is?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: Probably smaller than a car. Or--the same size.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: What else can you tell us about it?
| | | | | | | | |X|X|RM: There's a dark grey rim around the top--it...it's
|P| | | | | | | | |X| almost like a--a--spherical--it's domed on the top
| | | | | | | | | |X| and the lights are running around there, too, and...
| | | | | | | | | |X| it's not spinning much but it--it turns very, very
| | | | | | | | | |X| slowly as it comes towards me. Uh--there seem to be
| | | | | | | | | |X| several of them--they keep coming, or else it's
| | | | | | | | |X|X| circling--I don't--I don't know. It's very quiet--
| | | |X| | |X| | |X| that's what I don't understand--doesn't make any
| | | | | | | | | | | noise.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: You mention lights.
| | | | | | | | | | |RM: Umm.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: These lights--are these lights--discuss the color
| | | | | | | | | | | of these lights.
| | | | | | | | |X|X|RM: They're red and green. No, just red. And yellow.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Red and yellow?
|P| | | | | | | |X|X|RM: Umm. They're small little bumps, the whole circle on
|P| | | | | | | | |X| the bottom, and the very bottom where I look up into,
|P| | | |X| |X| | |2| it's--it's like a glass. I can't see through it,
|P| | | | | | | | |X| but it's like a glass. (GARBLED) glass.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: OK.
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: Now it's bigger. I... it was small because it wasn't
| | | |X|X| | | | |X| that close to me. But it's closer now, so it's
| | | | | | | | | | | larger.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How big is it? It's right over your head, now. How
| | | | | | | | | | | large is it? How large would you say it is, right now?
|P| | | | |X|X| | |X|RM: About as large as this room.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Can you tell me any other details?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: It's a greyish color--a greyish blue, and there's a dark
| | | | | | | | |X|X| blue stripe right around the center--just like a typical
| | | |X| | | | | |X| saucer (CHUCKLES) and I laugh because I think they
| | | | | |X| | |X| | shouldn't be shaped like what everybody thinks they're
|P| | | | | | | | |X| shaped like.... And there's just a soft, soft purring
|P| | | | | | | | |X| noise.... And it hovers.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Now, I'm going to ask you some specific questions about
| |X|X| | | | | | | | it, now. Can you see any insignias, or designs? You
| | | | | | | | | | | mentioned a blue line around it.
| | | | | |X|X| |X| |RM: Before, I thought I saw the shape of a bird or something
| | | | |X| |X| |X| | on the--on the top--I don't know how I saw the top.
| | | | | | | | |X| | With--uh--with an outstretched wingspan, sort of like an
| | | | | | | | |X|X| abstract bird. With straight lines and not--necessarily
| | | | | | | | | |X| feathered lines, but like a straight symbol of a bird
| | | | | | | | |X|X| would be,in flight. And that's also in--in the dark
| | | | | | | | |X|X| greyish blue. Same color as the rim.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Approximately what time of the day is it?
| | | | | | | | | | |RM: It's daytime. It's bright light outside.
| |X|X| | | | | | | |MC: All right. Do you see anything like landing gear,
| | | | | | | | | | | anything like that?
|P| | |X|X|X|X| |X| |RM: Looks like there might be something will come out
|P| | | | | | | | |X| around the glass circle.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: It's not that you see that, it's just that you imagine
| | |X| | | | | | | | it could be there, is that correct?
|P| | | | |X| | | |X|RM: Well, I see a dark line around it. It looks like it c--
|P| | | | | | | |X| | could come out there.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Ok, great. Now you just stay deeply relaxed there, and
| | | | | | | | | | | we're going to talk amongst ourselves for a moment.
| | | | | | | | | | | You'll ignore what we say until I talk to you again....

Comment on Question Area #1: UFO SIGHTED

RM is a good hypnotic subject and is in moderate if not deep
trance. In the first four segments her narrative flows smoothly
and has many specific details. After that, for good reasons
that will be discussed, she is preoccupied and thus less
focussed on the question areas. Yet her narrative is a solid
piece of evidence in support of the perinatal nature and
content of Imaginary/real CE3s.

In the first segment, she does follow MC's intentional cue of
"insignia" and "finds" one on the UFO. But she is generally
independent, and is objective enough to question why she is not
seeing an unusual saucer instead of "a typical saucer" that she
describes: a blue-gray, domed object with a rotating rim, on the
bottom of which are colored lights. It moves fast, skips near the
ground, spins slowly, and it purrs quietly. All of these details
are established patterns. But note her struggle to capture an
imagined anomaly's subtleties: "...it's almost not a color,
it's almost a brightness..."; and her conviction about what she
sees: "...but it's very, very real." Her statement is as
persuasive as that of any "real" abductees – dramatizing the
difficulties even subjects themselves have in distinguishing
actual experiences from fantasized events.

Later, RM becomes fascinated with the glass circle on the UFO's
bottom. In response to MC she says she senses that "something"
will "come out" from that area. She makes the circle into a
passageway that doesn't open, even when she moves through it.
(Perinatally it is a cervical opening, which is closed until
gradual dilation and birth.) RM appears to anticipate that she
will shortly pass through it (in segment #2). Her peak
perinatal moment: The placental saucer is stationary over her,
and momentarily she remembers the "white noise" of the maternal
womb: "And there's just a soft, soft purring noise.... And it
hovers."

| | | | | | | | | | | QUESTION AREA #2: SUBJECT BOARDS UFO
| | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Now, RM, you're doing very, very well so far. Now, I want
| |X|X| | | | | | | | you to imagine, now, that you're aboard the flying saucer.
| |X| | | | | | | | | Can you see yourself aboard the flying saucer?
| | | | | | | | | | |RM: (NODS)
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Now, I want you to tell me how you got there.
|P| | | |X| |X| | |X|RM: I don't remember it opening, but--I went up inside that
|P| | | | | | | | |X| glass circle somehow.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How, is what we want to know.
|2| | | | | | | | |2|RM: Sort of hovered over me, and the dark circle I told you
|P| | | | | |X| | |X| was around it--a long tube came out of it. And it was about--
| | | | | | | | | |X| six feet above me, and then--well, it was probably about
| | | | | | | | | |X| eight feet high--about two feet above me--and this long,
|2| | | | | | | | |2| cylinder-like tube came down. It was grey and the--it was
|P| | |X| | |X| |X|X| like all colored lights inside of it--it must have been a
| | | | | |X| | |X| | reflection, because there weren't any lights there. And
|P| | | |X| |X| | |X| then... there was like a blank moment--I seem to be
|2| | |X| | | | | |2| floating for a second, and--and I was inside. No... it
|P| | | | | |X| |X|X| was like a long journey, but I remembered, it--it wasn't
|P| | | | |X| | | |X| that long so it couldn't have been a journey. It would--
|P| | | | | | | | |X| but all of a sudden--it was--I was inside.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: I want to verify this for my own understanding. It really
| | | | | | | | | | | seemed to you like it was a long journey for you to go this
| | | | | | | | | | | very very short distance--that you might actually have gone
| | | | | | | | | | | farther than--than it looked like you should have gone? Is
| | |X| | | | | | | | that a correct statement?
|P| | | | | | | | |X|RM: Uh--it--it was almost like I blanked out and--and ... you
| | | | | | | | | |X| know, when you blank out you think things are longer? ...
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: It's just you just suddenly found yourself on board the
| |X|X| | | | | | | | flying saucer, then, is that correct?
|P| | | | | | | | |X|RM: Um-hm, because I'm crouching down now, and it seems like I
|2| | | | | |X| |X|X| have to come out of something still. I lift up, step out,
|P| | | |X| | | | |X| but there isn't anybody there. I mean, I don't see anybody.

Comment on Question Area #2: Boarding the UFO

RM boards via a grey body-sized cylinder or tube that is clearly
a vaginal tunnel: like so many other abductees she is "born"
through a cervical doorway and vaginal passageway into the UFO.
(In perinatal terms, abductees can experience any doorway as a
cervical passage.) There is a possible instance of so-called
"doorway amnesia" – she blanks out for a time – echoing
occasional fetal unconsciousness during the peak stress of birth.
But her blanking out may also have to do with another problem,
discussed later.

In a strange moment, as she moves up the tunnel of light toward
the fascinating circle of glass, she does not remember the UFO's
bottom opening at all. She may have passed through the bottom's
solidity, just as many "real" abductees claim they do. (Another
Imaginary/real parallel.)

Once inside, she crouches inside the tunnel (i.e., in fetal
position), and has to "come out of something still" – perhaps
this "something" is a memory of a problem birth, or maybe just
the amniotic sac or caul. There is also a strange suggestion
of possible time distortion: the boarding seemed "a long journey"
to her. Then she realizes it could not have been so; but
subjectively it felt long to her.

RM drops into the past tense to describe the fascinating boarding
event, which suggests she is not in deep trance. However, she may
simply be responding literally to MC's past-tense direction to
tell how boarding seemed a long journey to her. She gets back
into the present tense, the ongoing "now" mode that tells us the
subject is in good trance, in the final incidents.

Note that RM doesn't see anybody, and says so twice. She
anticipates entities consistently, like all the Imaginary
abductees, revealing an emotional eagerness for the contact that
in perinatal terms will lead her to bonding.

| | | | | | | | | | | QUESTION AREA #3: THE UFO INTERIOR
| | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: You just standing there now?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: Yeah, and looking around and--and it's a circle, and it
|P| | | | | | | | |X| banks out, it goes outward. I look around and I can see the
| | | | | | |X| |X|X| outside, even though I couldn't see in before. And there
| | | | | |X| | | |2| are lots of panels and lots of colored lights and--one place
| | | | | | | | | |X| has a little thing -- it looks like a screen with radar-type
| | | | | |X| | | |X| things and... there're a lot of buttons, and--lots of
| | | | | | | | | |X| black buttons, round knobs, I don't know what they're for.
| | | | | | |X| | |X| And symbols that I don't understand.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Symbols look like they're in English, or--
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: No.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: You mentioned that you could see out. How do you see out?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: They look like windows. I can see... uh--the windows
| | | | |X| |X| |X|X| make everything look smaller; it's like--condenses it outside
| | | | | | | | |X|X| so it looks like it's a photograph, but it really is
| | | | | | | | | | | outside.
| |X| | | | | | | | |MC: Would you say that it looks like it's farther away than--
| | | | | | | | |X| |RM: Yeah. Then I start to think, maybe I am higher
|P| | | |X| | | | |X| now. There's--there seems to be--perhaps some more
| | | | | | | | | | | above me.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: More of what?
|P| | | |X| | | | |X|RM: The vehicle. Perhaps it's above me, and someone's
|P| | |X|X| |X| |X|X| up there. It seems like there should be someone
| | | | | | | | | |X| there, but I don't see anybody.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right. Now, as you look around the room, how large is
| |X|X| | | | | | | | it? How large is the interior of this flying saucer?
|P| | | | | | | | |X|RM: I can probably take six paces in any direction. And I can
|P| | | | | | | |X|X| stand up. There aren't any chairs.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Is there any other furniture around you?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: I don't see any.
| |X|X| | | | | | | |MC: All right... . Now, can you smell anything, or--
|2| | | | | |X|X|X| |RM: Oh, the glass on the bottom, it's very, very warm... and
| | | | | | | | | |X| like a small, soft perfume or smoke comes off of it. It
|P| | |X| | | | | |X| smells very good, it's not like... gas fumes or anything.
|P| | | | | | | | |2| It just smells very nice, and it's very quiet. And I'm
| | | | | | | | | |X| getting farther away, still. The pictures are getting
| | | | | | | | | |X| smaller, of the desert. And the plateau I used to see.
| | | | | | | | | |X| We're more above it, now. (INAUDIBLE) I seem to hear
| | | |X| | | | |X|X| noises, but there's no one there, so I don't understand it.
|P| | |X|X| |X| | |X| But I feel like someone's--looking at me. Or seeing--
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right. Now, once again you just relax now. We're going
| | | | | | | | | | | to talk amongst ourselves, and then I'll come back to talk
| | | | | | | | | | | to you a little bit later.

Comment on Question area #3: UFO Interior

RM steps out of the entry tunnel (and some other substance) and
is in a perinatal "big room." Like other abductees, RM's
descriptions are vague when describing alien technology –- the
operating consoles and instrumentation make for lots of knobs and
buttons and things; and that's it. Such objects would have
technologies and appearances that abductees -- real or Imaginary --
can't convincingly fantasize. The UFO's windows seem to pose an even
more fascinating problem, because space itself seems distorted.
Then she realizes, as if actually on board, that the UFO may be
moving away from Earth. Her fantasy abduction seems real to her --
and it is persuasively well described to us at that point.

RM has a PSI hint that there is an upper story to the UFO, with
very possibly "something" there. Note that she doesn't look for
stairs or elevators. RM simply senses someone is watching her --
but who or what? Again, bonding is the motivating curiosity
(and memory) here. (But of course like all other Imaginaries RM
senses that the UFO is an intelligently operated craft, and she
is expecting any minute to see the intelligent operators!)

MC's inadvertent cue prompts her to bring up a scent of perfume
from that interesting glass bottom, which is now warm (at body
temperature, like a cervix?). She is comfortable with the smells,
which suggest good olfactory memories of the womb. In Grof's
birth revivification studies, smell memories are either nice or
awful; this one may seem a bit better than it really is.

| | | | | | | | | | | QUESTION AREA #4: UFO ENTITIES
| | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: OK, RM, you're doing very, very well so far. You're in this
| |X|X| | | | | | | | flying saucer, looking around, and some... beings...
| | | | | | | | | | | entities or whatever term you want to use to describe them.
| | | | | | | | | | | Can you see them?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: I think so.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: All right. I want you to describe them, as completely as
| |X| | | | | | | | | you can. First of all, you might want to tell me how many
| | | | | | | | | | | of them are there?
| | | | |X| |X| | |X|RM: (PAUSE) I--I turned around and he's just there... . When
| | | | | | | | | | | I--when I looked at him--it's almost as if I could look
| | | |X| | |X| | |X| through him, but not quite. (CLEARS THROAT) He's sort of
| | | | | | | | |X|X| a--a billowy figure. Everything about him is just sort of
|P| | | | | | | | |2| grey. It's like a long--he's wearing something long--he--
| | | | | | | | | |X| I'm not sure he has any particular form. He doesn't look
|P| | | | | | | | |X| that different from--what I would think to be a very, very
| | | | | | | | | |X| old man.
| |X| | | | | | | | |MC: Does he look like a human?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: Somewhat, yes.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: What way is he different?
|P| | | | | | | | |X|RM: It's the fact that I can't see any--features of his body
| | | | | | | | | |X| except his hands. I can see his hands. He has--he has
| | | | | | | | |X|X| very, very old hands, but... they seem more spotted, like
| | | | | | | |X| | | with huge freckles that--but it doesn't look very
|P| | | | | | | |X|X| unnatural. And he's very, very wrinkled. He seems like
| | | | | | | | | |X| he might be very old.
| |X| | | | | | | | |MC: Does he have hair?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: He has a beard.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: What color is it?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: It's sort of grey and--white. It--it sort of looks like
| | | | | | | | |X|X| about three colors. Or mixed.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How big is he?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: I think he must be the same size as I am.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Can you see his feet?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: No.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Why not?
|P| | | | | | | | |X|RM: He's got something long--it's all just covering him. I
| | | | | | | | |X|X| don't--it just seems like he has hands, and then his head,
|P| | | | | | | | |X| and then the gown or whatever it is.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right.
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: But it moves. It--
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: How does he move?
|P| | | |X| | | | |X|RM: He just sorta seems to--move. Sort of floats. Everything
| | | | | | | | | |X| billows and soft. But it looks as if I would touch him he
|P| | | | | |X| |X|X| would just fade. He doesn't seem real.
| |X|X| | | | | | | |MC: How does he feel, I mean, what is the feeling that you get
| | | | | | | | | | | about--
|2| | |X|X|X| | |X|X|RM: I'm in awe, and he seems... very, very wise. And I feel
|P| | | | | | | | |X| like I should be quiet, and not speak, because if I speak he
|P| | | |X|X|X| |X|X| might disappear. And I feel like he might be afraid of me.
|P| | | | | | | | |X| Or, at least unsure. Sort of like, I'm new to him.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How does he communicate with you?
|P| | | |X| |X| | |X|RM: Just with looks, but I feel like I know what he's thinking.
|P| | |X| | | | | |X| But I feel like he's--I'm communicating some, even though we
| | | | | | | | |X| | probably don't speak the same kind of words or language. I
| | | |X| | | | | |X| don't feel like I have to say anything out loud, I just feel
|P| | | |X| | | | |X| like I can convey... anything to him, just by...looks.
| | | | | | | | |X|X| I'm not even sure he has a mouth. Just a beard, maybe.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right. I'm curious as to how you feel inside about this
| | |X| | | | | | | | entity. How do you feel? Here you are, in this flying
| |X| | | | | | | | | saucer, this "being" there...
|P| | |X| |X| | | |X|RM: It's getting warmer, it's getting hot. Especially on one
| | | | | | |X| |X|X| side of my face. Seems like we're getting the sun just one
|P| | |X|X|X| | | |X| side of us. I feel... I'm glad I got chosen. I feel
|2| | |X| | | | | |X| very safe, and relaxed, and still in awe of--of what's
| | | | |X| | | |X| | going to happen. I'm not really thinking about--it
|P| | |X|X| |X| | |X| seems like--he's exerting a calm over me, and not to
| | | | | | | | | |X| worry and--
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How do you know it's a "he"?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: Probably because of the beard.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How many "beings" are in the room there with you?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: There are two behind me.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Does he look like the other one?
| | | |X| | | | | | |RM: That's what's so funny--I don't know why he looks like
| | | | | | | | | |X| that. It seems like he should look nice like the other
|P| | | | | |X| |X|X| one, but he doesn't. He sort of has a scaly-like skin,
| | | |X| |X| | | |X| and--I don't like him very much. Or it, whatever. I'm
| | | |X| | | | | |X| not very comfortable, when I start thinking that way,
|P| | |X|X| | | | |X| I look back at the bearded one, and I feel OK again.
| |X|X| | | | | | | |MC: Does one seem to be the leader?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: He must be. The other--the other two--scaly ones--they
| | | | | | | |X| | | don't--they just seem to be sort of non-existence (SIC) or
| | | | | | | | |X| | guards-type things or something.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Looks like they are to protect the old man in case you
| |X| | | | | | | | | should do anything, is that the idea?
| | | | | |X| | |X|X|RM: No, maybe--I don't think he's--I don't think he thinks I
| | | | | | | |X|X| | can hurt him. I think it's just to run with a war on
| | | | | | | | |X| | or something.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Can you tell me more about how the scaly ones are
| | |X| | | | | | | | shaped, or dressed?
| | | | | | | | | | |RM: They're not really--yeah. They have--they have the same--
| | | | | | | | | |X| it's almost like a vest-type thing. It has a diamond-shape
| | | | | | | | |X|X| insignia on it with gold outline and blue in the middle.
|P| | | |X| |X| | |X| And it--sort of seems to match that center circle we looked
| | | | | |X| | |X| | down--I looked down through before. And that orangish-red
|P| | |X|X| | | | |X| glow color. It's not really a color, it's just sort of--a
|P| | | | | |X| |X| | glow. And their scaly surface--it's sort of... I don't
|P| | | | | | | |X| | know--mud-color brown, or something. They don't look
|P| | |X| |X| | | |X| pleasant because they don't have a smile. They don't really
| | | | | | |X| |X|X| have eyes--they just--the one with the beard definitely has
| | | | | | | | | | | all of it.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Can you see the hands?
| | | | | | | | | |X|RM: Yes.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: What do they look like?
|P| | | | | | | |X|X|RM: Hard to see. They--they're not keeping their hands in view.
|P| | | | | | | | |X| They are closer to their bodies than my hands would be. I
|P| | | | | | | | |X| don't know if their arms are short or what. They have more
|P| | | | | |X| | |X| fingers it seems that I would think someone should have.
| | | | | | | | |X| | Yeah, they have... hard to count... Think--
| |2| | | | | | | | |MC: Do they have any trouble breathing? Do you feel any
| | | | | | | | | | | communication from them?
| | | |X|X|X| | | |X|RM: No. I feel sort of--a hostile... attitude from them
|P| | | | | |X| |X| | somewhat. I'm not sure they breathe. At least not--not
|P| | | | | | | |X| | where I would breathe like through my nose or anything.
| | | | | | | | |X| | They--they seem to maybe--they must have something on them-- on
|P| | | | | | |X| | | their skin somewhere that--takes in oxygen. I can
|P| | | | | | | | |X| breathe, so I figure they must need oxygen also. It's cool
| | | |X| | |X| | |2| again. It's dark. It's darker.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: What does that mean?
|P| | | |X| |X| | |X|RM: Either a long time has gone by, or we're somewhere
| | | | | |X| | |X|X| different. We're just away from the sun, I guess we could
| | | | | | | | |X| | have just gone around and had the earth blocking the sun, I
| | | | | | | | | | | don't know.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right.
|P| | | | | | | | |X|RM: It feels like we're--it's colder. I'm starting to be
| | | |X| | |X| | |X| afraid, a little.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Why are you afraid?
| | | |X| | | | | |X|RM: Well, I wonder where I'm going, what's going to be the
| | | | | | | | | |X| eventual outcome of all this.

Comment on Question Area #4: Entities

RM's eager anticipation of entities (and a possible bonding
event) is realized when she finds two different types of
entities aboard, a somewhat unusual pattern. This gives her
a double choice for a successful bond, though the problem
is eased by a "good-alien/bad-alien" pair. RM manages a
fair amount of good detail about her entities. The first is
a wrinkled and aged human, seemingly with apparitional
powers; he appears to float rather than walk, and seems a bit
unreal to her, as if he might fade away. He communicates with
her telepathically. The other entity has scales and is
probably reptilian; a rare clothed animal, it does not speak.
RM thinks up novel characteristics for it: it may lack eyes,
and it doesn't breathe (she speculates it absorbs oxygen
through its mud-brown skin), it seems hostile, and it is
apparently also a telepath, like the old man.

RM, sensing lighting and temperature changes in the UFO,
connects them with the changes of direct sunlight and Earth's
shade as the craft speeds about in space. (Perinatal
interpretation: alternating hot and cold flashes are common
in Grof's birth revivifications.) She says the changes may
mean the UFO has traveled a long time or a long distance since
her abduction. As it becomes colder, she grows fearful of the
"eventual outcome of all this" -- and perhaps concerned about
successful bonding, too.

| | | | | | | | | | | QUESTION AREA #5: EXAMINATION
| | | | | | | | | | |
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: All right. Now, RM, the next step in your adventure is,
| | |X| | | | | | | | you are being examined by... these creatures are
| | | | | | | | | | | examining you. I want to tell me what's going on, how they go
| | | | | | | | | | | about it, and what you're feeling.
| | | |X| | | | | |X|RM: Uh--I don't like it. The one with the beard just stands
| | | | | | | | | |X| there and I want him to help me make them stop, but he won't.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Make them stop what?
| | | |X| |X| | | |2|RM: He's starting to touch me... on my shoulders and see how
| | | |X| | | | | |X| I react, and I--I start to be afraid and back away but--he
|2| | | |X| | | | |X| looks at me again and so I stop. And I keep smelling that--
|P| | |X|X| |X| | |2| perfume, and it seems to make me--not want to resist, and--
| | | |X| | | | | |2| when I just relax it's not that bad. They're touching, and
|P| | | |X| | | |X|X| I feel like they're trying to show me to him, so he can see.
| | | | | | | | |X| | But he doesn't move, he's just there, and I start to wonder if
|P| | | |X| |X| | |X| he's real, or maybe just an apparition, but--he must be, I
|P| | | | | | | | |2| can see his eyes following me. They're lifting my arms and
|2| | | | | | | |X|X| moving my head and my legs, and then they move my shirt,
| | | |X| | |X| | |X| and act surprised.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: You say, they remove your shirt?
|P| | | | | | | |X| |RM: No, they just--just moved it on my shoulders. I guess they
| | | | | | |X| |X| | didn't know if it was attached, part of me or what.
| | | | | | | | | | |MC: Um--hm.
| | | |X| |X| | | |X|RM: Nothing seems sexual or anything--I think they're just
| | | | | | | | | |X| curious.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: What's happening now?
| | | |X| | | | |X|X|RM: They--they put their--I guess it's their heads--close to me.
| | | | |X| |X| |X|X| I feel like they're sniffing me, but they don't have noses. It's
|P| | | |X| | |X| |X| just like they're just--inhaling something from me. It's
| | | | | | |X| |X|X| hard to explain. They must have another sense that I'm--not
| | | |X|X| |X| | |X| aware of. And I feel like--like they're taking something
| | | | | | | |X| |X| off that part of me, and--seems like they're checking to
|P| | | | | | | | |X| see what parts of me move, and what works. They're very
| | | | | | | | | |X| cautious about touching me, though.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: What else do they do?
|P| | |X| | |X| | |X|RM: I feel like I'm being suspended, sort of. I don't think
| | | | | | | | | |X| I'm standing anymore, but I'm not sure. They must have
| | | | | | | | | |X| got a table from somewhere, I'm not sure. I feel like I've
|P| | |X| | |X| |X|X| been asleep for a long time. They're not there, anymore.
| | | | | | | | | |2| Nobody's there. I'm all alone. Laying down. And there's
|P| | | | | | | |X|X| something grey covering me, but it doesn't touch me, just
|P| | | |X| |X|X|X| | sort of hangs over the surface of me.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: Why isn't it touching you?
|P| | |X| | | | | |X|RM: I don't think I'm wearing any clothes anymore.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How did your clothes get taken off?
|P| | |X| |X|X| | |3|RM: I don't know. It seems like I was asleep or--or drugged.
| | | | | | | | | |X| Now the one with the beard is there again. He seems to
|P| | |X| | | | | |2| reassure me. He seems to be there to take care of me, or--I
|P| | | | | |X| | |X| feel like a specimen, maybe. But I feel--I'm not treated
| | | | | | | | | |X| unkindly.
| | |X| | | | | | | |MC: How do you feel right now?
| | | |X| | | | | |X|RM: (CHUCKLE) Just sort of confused. I...

Comments on Question #5: Examination

About halfway through her examination, RM suddenly feels as if
she is waking after being unconscious. She is naked on a table,
a grey covering strangely suspended over her without touching.
She says maybe that she was "drugged" – by the perfume or what?
Her "exam" before that point has been minimal -- no head-to-foot
probing of her body; and only three tentative and ambiguous acts
that can relate to an examination.

RM was fearful of the lizard-men's touch. The old man watched
although she wanted him to stop them. Then the mysterious perfume
was there again and it made her stop resisting; she relaxed and it
was better. But the lizard-men's exam was trivial and seemingly
without purpose. They showed her arms and legs to the old man; and
they moved her shirt and seemed surprised that it wasn't skin.
Then they did something strange: "...they're just – inhaling
something from me. It's hard to explain. They must have another
sense...I feel like...they're taking something off that part of
me..." At that point she apparently lost consciousness.

When she wakes, suddenly the old man is there, reassuring her
wordlessly. She has not been treated unkindly, though she feels
like a specimen. Still, RM seems close to bonding with him.

I believe that all this reflects a foggy deliveryroom memory from
the effects of actual drugs administered to RM's mother during
her birth. The examination is the most fragmented of all segments
thus far in RM's otherwise good narrative. In support of the drug
theory, remember that her entry into the UFO (i.e., a symbolic
birth) seemed "a long journey" to RM. Later, before she sees the
two entities, she suspects "a long time has gone by"; and during
the exam she feels "like I've been asleep for a long time."
Finally she wonders if she was drugged. All that suggests perinatal
memories of drug-induced amnesia.

There are at least three sources for unconsciousness or amnesia in
perinatal processes. 1) The release of the chemical oxytocin at the
climactic point of delivery may induce unconsciousness or amnesia
in the fetus/neonate. The entire event may be stored in perinatal
memory. 2) Anesthetics may be released into the maternal system before
or during delivery (and 30 seconds later most drugs are in the fetus).
3) The fetal "emotional memory," a pre-conscious emotional record of
embryonic/fetal and infant development to age 3 or 4, which some
neuroscientists are convinced is centered in the amygdala. The
emotional memory is not limited to perinatal experiences, but includes
everything in pre- and post-natal life that makes an emotional
impression. It is not normally available to the declarative memory
system, which is centered in the hippocampus and develops later. It
is thought to become available to conscious memory usually only
through body memories or trauma. I believe that the emotional
memory is also stimulated by certain types of wild fantasizing, such
as that characteristic of Imaginary/real CE3 narratives -- which is
why I think that perinatal language and processes appear in
abduction accounts.

It seems to me that maternal drugs are the most likely reason for
RM's truncated "examination" segment. We did not ask RM or any
other of the Imaginaries about their birth situation, since in 1977
we had no idea that perinatal functioning had anything to do with
CE3 fantasies. RM was 21 and so would have been born in 1956-7, when
several anesthetics were routinely and widely used in childbirth,
and without as much caution as today. We might locate her through
the University's teacher education records, since she was a teacher
candidate. If her mother is still living we might get anecdotal
verification. But establishing a case would call for hospital
records, which are normally microfilmed and warehoused after seven
years; they would be difficult to dig up.

| | | | | | | | | |X| going to take some time, I think.

Comments on Question Area #6: Message

RM reacts very favorably to the old man's first touch, and
suddenly seems nearly overcome with very vague but strongly
positive feelings: she is going to be treated royally, and
be special. Perinatally, RM has bonded with the old man,
that is, she has already received her "message," and it has
been a peak experience for her. She is so preoccupied with
these strong feelings that she rambles a bit, resisting
MC's message question, and he has to repeat it. She hesitates,
probably confused; after all, she feels she has conveyed
the message. MC cues her by suggesting that maybe she's not
supposed to tell what the message is (a common abductee claim).

(Here MC understandably does not catch the nature of RM's
"message": bonding. After all, at that time neither he nor I
understood the perinatal implications of CE3 narratives. Here
our poor limitations are evident. But no harm done -- just an
awkward moment.) RM modifies MC's cue, saying the old man
had "implanted" (an unusual word in those early times)
something in her mind, and she won't know what it is for
some time. But something will be happening in the future;
nothing bad, but she feels she's been "chosen." Apparently
the central point of her "message" all along was that
bonding is ultimately a feeling of having been chosen.

RM's responses here are consistent with those of many abductees
with messages –- vague, contradictory (the "secret" is usually
revealed), with a focus on future events –- maybe something
good, but equally possible an ecological catastrophe or whatever.
I believe that the content of the message, paradoxically, is
unimportant; the real message is that the witness has been
chosen (i.e., the first step in a successful bonding with the
entity/parent figure). The witness' emotions are obviously
highly involved. Here, RM is on an optimistic high. Her next
step, acceptance, is a foregone conclusion.

Her use of the word "implanted" is interesting in view of the
fact that in 1977 claims of implants were very rare in CE3
literature, and RM is unlikely to have known the term in that
connection. All known physical objects allegedly implanted in
witnesses that have been analyzed have proved to be
non-extraterrestrial. But perinatally the implant can be
associated with the fetal intuitive knowledge of the need for
bonding, especially the maternal bond (who else but the
mother and/or father could have "implanted" it?) and
consequent feelings of royal treatment, being special, being
the chosen one, etc. The message of bonding is that the
fetus is loved, wanted, that it belongs, and will be cared
for. At just the right moment, RM says, the old man (the parental
symbol), "seems to be there to take care of me." This is her
implanted "knowledge" -- a message of bonding love.

| | | | | | | | |X|X| depended on for survival don't seem to matter anymore. I
|P| | | | |X| | |X| | feel very, very natural, very--I don't know. Hard to
| | | | | | | | | |X| explain.

Comment on Question Area #7: Return

Abductees are often vague on how they were returned; RM is no
different. Her only unusual thought about her return is that
time was condensed: it seems to her that she's never been gone
because "it's still the same time." But "there's something
different" now; she's "grown up" a whole lifetime's worth,
because of her abduction experience. Maybe she is looking back
at herself as a neonate and the development since then.

The focus of MC's question turns RM away from the return and
anticipates her next question area, the aftermath. She continues
in that vein, too, claiming a change in her values away from old
things to healthier, more natural things.

In perinatal terms, the "message" that witnesses receive from
entities is symbolic: whatever the content, the witness often
learns something they already knew (I guess it's "what every
baby knows"): "bonding love is important and you need it."
After a bonding offer is made by the entity/parent figure,
the "return" is the neonate/abductee's symbolic return to the
mother with an acceptance of the bonding offer. Here there
are perinatal and neonatal references to RM's growth, to her
glow of health, and to her new assurance of survival.

Like most "real" abductees, RM feels the complex emotions
involved in a moment of personal transcendence, but (again
like abductees) she also finds it difficult to articulate
her feelings. RM may feel a special sense of relief because
of her earlier post-natal drug haze; her relief makes her
almost giddy.

In the last two question segments, "Message" and "Return,"
the Imaginary/real CE3 similarities -- implants, bonding,
transcendent feelings, ineffable emotional states -- are
particularly obvious, raising once again questions about
the extent of true distinctions between Imaginary/real CE3s,
and also of the physical reality of "real" abductee's claims.

Comments on Question Area #8: Aftermath

RM has already given her answer to Q #8, and so her response
here is more of the same, save for a memorable expression of
her post-CE3 feelings of transcendence: "I feel light enough
almost to float." (She identifies with the fetus afloat in
the amniotic fluid of good-womb times.) She now has a "purpose";
she knows "there's something greater beyond" herself that she
can't explain. And it's not necessarily religious in nature,
though it may have some affinities with the religious spirit at
its most "oceanic" in terms of her emotional responses. It involves
a positive acceptance of the world and the people she is closest to,
along with an acceptance of the offered bond. The emotional context
is overwhelming; no wonder RM (and doubtless some other abductees,
too) have trouble dealing with the ineffable nature of her own
transcendent reactions at this point.

To repeat, the perinatal interpretation of all this emotion is the
feeling of bonding –- being a loved and cared-for member of the human
family. The emotional importance of that is inestimable, just as not
feeling that one is a member of a loving and caring family can be
personally disastrous.

RM's Imaginary abduction is very similar to many "real" abductees'
CE3s. Underneath the overt "alien contact" fantasy story line, the
actual perinatal drama lays low, awaiting discovery. Despite
differences in details (and a fragmented examination segment), RM's
CE3 is a symbolic reliving of fetal events, delivery and its aftermath,
and the bonding experience. It is based on the witness/subject's most
intimate perinatal memories of birth and development. No wonder deep
emotions are involved; it's understandable that Grof's subjects in
re-birth experiments eagerly go into personal transcendence afterwards.

Of course, many abductees are certain their experience is
physically real -- that is, they accept the alien/abductee
scenario literally. In emotional terms, it is real to a great
degree for RM and other Imaginaries, at least until their
fantasy trance is done. Still, it is significant that no
Imaginary/real abductee that McCall and I regressed was
consciously aware at the time that he/she had in actuality
experienced a rebirth fantasy.

Thus they got no perinatal cues from McCall, nor indirectly
from me. If we were to do a session now, however, it would be
difficult for McCall to ask questions perfectly free from
conscious perinatal content. All the more reason to see the
Imaginary transcripts as valid perinatal documents in a
historical sense as well.

GROUPED PERINATAL ECHOES IN RM's IMAG CE3

GENERAL PERINATAL ECHOES
-possible maternal drugs affect RM's narrative during post-natal examination
-lights inside vary from bright to dim
-aftermath: she feels different; for a whole lifetime maybe; healthier, a glow;
new values; feels good about herself
-a "perfume" from the "warm bottom" takes away her resistance to the aliens
(olfactory memories of pleasant smells in womb)

AMNIOTIC ECHOES
-aboard: "...it seems I'm crouching down now, and it seems like I have to come
out of something still. I lift up, step out..." (amniotic sac)

CERVICAL ECHOES
-she feels "something" will come out from the UFO's circular glass bottom
-UFO bottom is a circle of opaque glass; without opening a (vaginal) tube comes
out through which she moves inside

DELIVERY ROOM MEMORIES
-she feels someone's looking at or watching her (maternal bonding)
-entity touches her (bonding), and she feels she's "chosen," special
-possible effects of maternal drugs on memory
-exam is fragmented, not head-to-toe order; she uses "drugged" in describing
how she feels; "perfume" f/warm "bottom" (floor) may have put her to
sleep; she awakes later, feeling normal again, though events after
	delivery seem vague and repetitive

FETAL ECHOES
-no fetal humanoids; some fetal qualities in human/apparitional entity, billowy
figure of an wrinkled old man [fetus]; he floats

PLACENTAL ECHOES
- "so natural to see it there" (placental UFO)
- placental saucer is stationary over her, and she remembers the "white noise"
of the maternal womb: "And there's just a soft, soft purring noise...
	And it hovers."
- UFO "about as large as this room" (womb comparison)
- UFO has a Saturn-like rim (in narrative, though not in sketch)
- animal entities: hostile, scaly lizards (late-stage placenta)

UMBILICAL ECHOES
-a long body-sized tube comes down over RM from placental UFO's underside

VAGINAL ECHOES
-temperature varies in UFO, from cool to hot (Grof’s induced birth memories)
-"...a long tube came out of the dark circle...all colored lights inside it...
-she seems to be blanked out for a second, then was inside the UFO (fetal
	unconsciousness at peak of delivery)
-the old bearded entity is exerting a calm over her; asleep or drugged, her
clothes removed, the bearded one reassures her [post-natal relief]

BONDING
-RM is the only one of the first four Imaginary subjects to bond positively
with an alien parental surrogate (the old man); she feels ecstatic
-The essence of bonding is the feeling of having been chosen -- and then of
course accepting the bond; RM feels special for having been chosen
