Founded in 1993 by Publisher/Editor JEFFREY THOMAS, NECROPOLITAN PRESS is an independent publisher in the genres of HORROR, SCIENCE FICTION, DARK FANTASY,and the Unclassifiable.

T. S. Eliot said, "The end is where we start from." This is true of Necropolitan Press. Our first project was THE END magazine, which ran through five issues, and since then we have released a number of highly regarded single or multiple author chapbooks, each compellingly illustrated. Stories and poems from our various projects have been reprinted in DAW Books' THE YEAR'S BEST HORROR STORIES and received Honorable Mention in St. Martins' THE YEAR'S BEST FANTASY AND HORROR.

Below, please read all about those publications of ours that are still in print...

At its best, the small press is a sanctuary for writers -- and readers -- who shun the common fodder. Our aim is to cast a little more light on such publications; especially, of course, our own!

An "attractive volume" (Ellen Datlow) of 7 unique, unexpected takes on the vampire tale...from the erotic to the gothic, from science fiction to the Lovecraftian (Nyarlathotep as vampire). Stoker-recommended story by Scott Thomas. Other writers: Margaret Smith, Jeff Dennis, Joanne S. Kanarkiewicz, J. M. Rozanski, James Ambuehl, and W. H. Pugmire. TALES OF SESQUA VALLEY
W. H. Pugmire

A collection of the dark fantasy and Lovecraftian horror of widely-respected weird story-teller W. H. Pugmire, whose work has appeared in such books as THE YEAR'S BEST HORROR STORIES, HORRORSTORY, CUTTING EDGE, TALES BY MOONLIGHT II, THE DUNWICH CYCLE, BIZARRE DREAMS and Poppy Z. Brite's LOVE IN VEIN. Pugmire's style is distinctively lyrical, his stories raw with emotion, his approach to the Cthulhu Mythos utterly unique. "Lovecraftian fans will be pleased to visit Sesqua Valley" -- CEMETERY DANCE. Beautiful wrap-around cover by Earl Geier (Chaosium artist), lavishly illustrated. 68 pages. $5
SOLD OUT! Most of these stories will be reprinted in Jeffrey's collection of Lovecraftian work, UNHOLY DIMENSIONS, available soon from Mythos Books! (And 2 of the stories from BONES were reprinted in TERROR INCOGNITA, Delirium Books.)

THE BONES OF THE OLD ONES
Jeffrey Thomas

A collection of the Lovecraft-inspired fiction (and poetry) of Jeffrey Thomas (BLACK WALLS, RED GLASS; Marietta Publishing). Yes, that's right, BONES was self-published, but hey -- title story recommended for a Bram Stoker award, three stories and one poem Honorable Mentions in THE YEAR'S BEST FANTASY AND HORROR #9. "All of the Lovecraftian tales offered herein manage to genuinely frighten and urge the imagination on to heights all too rarely reached in the small press horror genre" -- THE NEW JERSEY GRAVELINE. "An impressive gathering of Cthulhu Mythos-oriented tales" -- CEMETERY DANCE. The title story takes place in the futuristic city featured in my book PUNKTOWN (Ministry of Whimsy Press), and the sequel THE AVATARS OF THE OLD ONES has been published by Imelod Publications (see Links). 70 pages. $5
SOLD OUT! (But this novella, along with others just as wonderful, appears in the book CITY OF SAINTS AND MADMEN: THE BOOK OF AMBERGRIS, available from Cosmos Books in paperback, and with a limited edition hardcover containing extensive additional material available from Prime.)

THE EARLY HISTORY OF AMBERGRIS was listed as one of the BOOKS OF THE YEAR by acclaimed British author BRIAN STABLEFORD in VECTOR, the Critical Journal of the British Science Fiction Association!

The Hoegbotton Guide To
THE EARLY HISTORY OF AMBERGRIS
By Duncan Shriek
Jeff VanderMeer

A mesmerizing novella -- one moment hilarious, the next utterly chilling -- that is not only a tour guide through the dream city of Ambergris, but through the very architecture of the imagination. VanderMeer has been widely published in such books and magazines as BEST NEW HORROR 7, NEBULA AWARDS 30, INTERZONE, and ASIMOV'S SF MAGAZINE. This brilliant work, presented as an actual "artifact" from Ambergris, and stunningly intricate in its construction, builds upon the world introduced in DRADIN, IN LOVE (Buzzcity Press), about which Thomas Ligotti said, "Thanks for bringing into existence one of the most luxuriantly grotesque stories I've read in a hell of a long time." And ASIMOV'S SCIENCE FICTION said, "VanderMeer strides shoulder to shoulder with currently working authors such as Paul Park, M. John Harrison, and Thomas Ligotti." 88 pages. $7.99
