Carol and Logan have been friends and allies for a very long time. The two first met when Logan was an agent for the Canadian government and Carol was a rookie secret agent for the US. The two shared a number of early adventures, two of which brought them into conflict with the animalistic mutant known as Sabretooth. The two formed a quick bond and it was Logan who nicknamed Carol "Ace." Logan was among the team of agents who defied direct orders and common sense to rescue Carol from the KGB, who were holding Carol at Lubyanka Prison. It is unclear exactly *how* close the pair became but it has been hinted on a number of occasions that they were more than just friends.

Following her encounter with Rogue, Carol and Logan rebuilt their friendship despite Carol's lack of emotional connection to their shared past. Recently while hanging out at a New York bar, Logan noticed Carol's excessive drinking. When a battle broke out at the United Nations, Carol and Logan responded despite Wolvie's concern about Carol's drunken state. As Warbird and Wolverine battled the mutant terrorist calling herself Powerhouse, it became clear that Warbird's drinking was affecting her performance. Carol's carelessness caused excessive damage and Wolverine was forced to minimize the damage she was doing. This hindered his ability to successfully contain the situation. Warbird was easily beaten due to her inebriated state. Following this battle, Logan was possessed by an alien body-hopper and forced to attack Carol. He was then whisked off to the far reaches of the galaxy before having a chance to confront Carol with her drinking problem.
