Appearance: Primatians are one of the mutant races created by evil human scientists in Tokiwa-Dai, several millenea ago. These particular mutants were humans combined with apes, namely gorillas, chimpanzees and orangatangs.

Consequently, these "ape-men" are quite varied in looks and are divided into three sub-races: Gorillians have dark black faces and black fur, many stand over seven feet tall; Tangites have tan colored faces and creme colored fur, standing 5 1/2' to 6' tall; Panzians have dark brown faces and light brown fur, standing 5 1/2' to 6' tall.

All types of Primatians wear clothing of sorts, Gorillians prefering leather armors, the leaders even in metal armors; Tangites wear more human-like clothing, short beeches and vests; the Panzians prefer loose robes.

All Primatians gain +1 to initial dexterity rolls for thier great agility. Gorillians are the strongest of the lot, gaining +1 to initial strength rolls for a maximum of 19. Their intelligence is lower, however, never more than 14 and dropping to 6.

Tangites are the spiritual leaders of the Primatians, gaining +1 to their wisdom rolls. They are most often the leaders for thier great wisdom. Tangites maximum strength is 18/00 while their intelligence ranges from 10 to 16.

Panzians are the intellectuals gaining a +1 to their initial intelligence rolls, for a range of 12 to 19. Their maximum strength is also 18/00.

Combat: Primatians are a tough race to battle. Gorillians are known as some of the fiercest and most savage warriors in the Great Jungle. Tangites and Panzians support the Gorillians well with their skills of other types.

There are several types of groups that may be encountered while in the wild jungles. The Primatians may be part of a scouting party, a hunting party, a war band or the group may be encountered near their villages. Each group has a quite different makeup.

Scouting Party: These groups are usually formed of warriors specialized in forestry (rangers) and those best trained for stealth (thieves). 50% of the group will be rangers (equal chances of each sub-race), the other 50% will be thieves (70% of those Panzians, 30% Gorillians). Rangers will be equipped with longbows, 50% also with longsword and club, 50% with flail and weighted net. Thieves will be armed with shortsword, daggers and flails.

Hunting Party: These groups favor heavily the warriors, made up of 75% to 100% Gorillians. One is always a ranger, though, guiding the group. There is a 50% chance for two rangers to be present if the party numbers more than 8. 50% of the hunting party carries spears, longswords and clubs, the other 50% carries longbows and longswords.

War Band: These teams are used in raids and battles against other races. There are always between 7 and 12 in each group, more than the normal 2-12 for hunting and scouting parties. There is always at least one spellcaster present in each group and as many as three in the largest groups. In groups of 7 or 8, one Tangite priest ot Panzian mage is present (50% chance for each, levels 4th - 6th). In groups of 9 or 10, one of each is present. In groups of 11 or 12, one of each is present as well as one extra is as well (50% chace for each, levels 6th - 8th). 80% or more of the warriors are Gorillians. 50% of the warriors carry spear, longsword and club while the other 50% carry longbow and longsword.

Near Village: Groups near villages could be encountered in numbers 10 to 100. There will be an equal number of each of the sub-races. All Gorillians encountered will be fighters, with one 4th - 7th level fighter for every 10 primatians and one 8th - 12th level general for groups of 80 or more. Tangites in the group will 50% fighters (2nd level) and 50% priests (2nd -3rd level) with one 4th - 6th level priest for every 20 primatians and one 8th level (or higher) high priest for groups of 80 or more. Panzians will be 50% fighters (2nd level) and 50% mages (2nd-3rd level) with one 4th - 6th level mage for every 25 primatians and one 8th level (or higher) wizard for groups of 80 or more. Warriors carry longswords and clubs (50%) or flails and daggers (50%). Priests carry flails (75%) or maces (25%).

Habitat/Society:Primatians house together in mated pairs. Sub-races always mate to their own kind and villages are segregated by sub-race. Villages exist with 100 to 1000 residents. These villages are each seperate tribes, autonomous of other banded tribes of the jungle. Tribes do not band together, save for the druids, who form their own collective of forest protectors in Primatia.

Within each tribe, struggles exist for leadership between the Gorillian generals and the Tangite high priests. Panzians prefer not to get caught up in politics, steering clear of the rulership debates instead focusing on their magic.

Tribes usually consist of relatively equal numbers of each sub-race. Gorillians are 80% fighters, 10% rangers and 10% thieves. Standard Goriallian warriors are 3rd level (3+2 HD) with unit leaders of 4th to 7th level. Generals are between 8th and 12th level fighters. Rangers and thieves vary in ability from 3rd level to 6th level.

Tangites are 30% priests, 40% warriors, 10% druids and 20% rangers. Standard warriors are 2nd level (2+1 HD) with unit leaders up to 6th level. Standard priests are 3rd level (3+1 HD) with advancement up to 7th level. High priests are between 8th and 14th level. Druids range from 3rd level to the 15th level Great Druid. Rangers vary in ability from 2nd level to 5th level.

Panzians are 30% mages, 30% fighters, 20% rangers and 20% thieves. Standard warriors are 2nd level (2HD) though some climb to 6th level. Standard mages are 3rd level (3 HD) with advancement to 8th level. Top mages peak at 12th level. Rangers begin at 2nd level (2 HD) and continue through 5th level. Panzian thieves are the best and most nimble, beginning at 3rd level (3 HD) and continuing through 8th level.

Tribes are heavily patriarchal with females taking a back seat. Most females raise the children and are in charge of the artisan concerns of the tribe, cooking and preparing the food, mending clothing and leathers, creating clay pots, storage and cooking containers. One exception to this are the female Panzian mages who can advance as high as males, though still garner little respect from the other sub-races. Standard female Gorillians have 3+2 hit dice, Tangites have 2+1 hit dice and Panzians have 2 hit dice.

Ecology: The Primatians inhabit dense jungles and are fiercely territorial. Thier villages tend to be constructed of crude huts of logs, mud and straw, seldom cut lumber. They manage to forge low quality weapons such as swords and daggers, plus make plenty of blunt weapons (flails and clubs), many times the favorite for quiet attacks, and longbows and spears for ranged attacks. More often weapons of better quality are stolen from other tribe or other races. Top level Primatians have enchanted weapons and armor from raids and plunders.

Each village contains an armory, entrusted to the priests, a small open-air arena for combat training and council meetings, and a wooden corral or cage for prisoners of war. Prisoners are treated poorly and usually die, whether due to disease, starvation or severe beatings at the hands of the Gorillians.

The diet of the Primatians consits of wild game trapped or hunted and wild plants gathered by rangers and druids.
