Cast Of Young Jedi Knight Characters

(I also have an issue with plagarism that has been instilled in me by my college. So I guess I learned something at college after all.) Right now, I really am questioning Tenel Ka's age, it is not definite in the book so any information, quoted, would help tremendously. I will be adding more characters on as the days get longer and the nights shorter and I am looking for good pictures of all of these characters (separately) so if you find any, please notify me at my comlink.

CHARACTER NAME PLANET ORIGIN AGE MEET THE CHARACTER

Tenel Ka Dathomir and Hapes 15? Tenel Ka is by far the most fascinating character to me on Yavin right now (unless Mara Jade stops by to visit). Therefore my information will contain extreme biases and I make no apologies for it :) Tenel Ka is unique in three aspects, she is the princess of the Hapes Cluster and a warrior of Dathomir, she is a Jedi-Knight-In-Training at the Yavin Academy and she has only one arm since her lightsaber accident. Though her roots are rich in royalty, one can never mistake her for snobbery or conceitedness, as for her grandmother that is another story. Her friendships are true and comforting, her loyalty unchallenged and her physical dexterity is phenomenal. This Dathomirian warrior is known to scale the walls of the Great Temple on Yavin with only her strength and a thin wire supporting her. Another of her unique attributes, she only relies on the Force when all else fails. Her appearance is chameleon in nature, since her first appearance in the Young Jedi Knights series. At first her hair was described to be red-gold and wavy but then was described as rusty gold and in the Guides to Star Wars Characters, her hair was simply labeled as brown. I attribute these changes to her refusal to use only one type of Dathomirian dye in her hair so maybe the next color will be violet. The one thing has remained the same are her eye. They are described as gray in color. Since she is a Jedi in Training, as is all of the YJK characters, it is essential to know what their lightsabers look like, if they have one. Through the creation of her lightsaber, one can understand why Jedi Masters feel the lightsaber is a part of them. Tenel Ka suffered difficulties in the first few books dealing with her royal heritage and her warrior heritage. Her lightsaber is a reflection of the balance she struck with herself, her family lines and the Force. The hull, or the handle, of her lightsaber is the hollowed out shell of a Rancor’s tooth. Rancor are born and raised on the planet of Dathomir and helpful companions of the various clans on the planet. The crystals used to give the lightsaber it’s turquoise hue are from her Hapes tiara. They are a symbol in the Hapes Cluster and she who wears the tiara with the crystals from Gallinore, a planet in the Hapes Cluster, is known to be part of the Hapan Royalty. Didn’t I tell you I was biased?

Jaina Coruscant 14 Jaina is the daughter of one very famous princess and the scoundrel of all smugglers. Her reputation proceeds her based on her father and mother’s reputations as Princess Leia Organa Solo and Han Solo. Though some might find it difficult to pad across the universe in shoes of that size, Jaina seems to have found her niche rather comfortable. Both she and her brother have chosen to continue the Skywalker line of Force users and become Young Jedi Knights, obviously by choice. As for being a twin, the similarities stop at the hair and eye color. While her brother may be found romping through the forest in search of a new pet, Jaina has more piloting/mechanic skills. Her very nature is to work on the newest models of any vehicle that arrives at the Academy and tweak it to its full potential. When she isn’t scrounging up new parts for this hyperdrive motivator or that engine coolant system, she also turns her mechanical interest toward preserving the Academy (from Jacen’s pets’ cages to creating power cells). Jaina eyes are chameleon in nature compared to Tenel Ka’s hair. They have been described as brandy-brown to liquid brown (though I fail to see what color is liquid brown other than brown). I think her eye crystals are acting up and they just keep changing color over and over. Her hair is straight and brown like her mother’s. As part of her Jedi training, she created her own lightsaber, literally. She grew the “pure” crystals to give her blade an exotic purplish-blue hue. This application of the Force seems to give even beginners the ability to shape beings to their own desires. Because of this, I have a theory that Jaina might not remain so steadfast in her parental footsteps for long, maybe there is a chance for this overall “goody-two-shoe” character. Not that I don’t like her being a nice person, I just like a wrench in the overall, smoothly running machinery. Know what I mean? :)

Jacen Coruscant 14 Okay, I could state the obvious like he is the male clone of Jaina Organa Solo with short, wavy, out of control like his dad, Han Solo, or that he too trains at the Academy. But, that is not why I like this character and all that has bee said and done already. Jacen loves animals and bugs and anything he can catch or charm into his room. While everyone else is in the Academy lifting really big rocks, Jacen is in the dirt on his hands and knees, scrounging in a bush that might have woolamanders in it or a crystal snake or two. He relates best with animals and I see this boy doing his best work as a xenologist or a transporter of rare/extinct animals, instead of saving the universe. But a Jedi rat catcher, is better than anything for me. Once he masters these skills, and some realizes that there can be two way communication between one species and another (it irritates me that some of his pets can’t pick up on his mood swings though they’ve been with him for as long as he’s been at the Academy) he might make an impressive wilderness teacher. Jacen is also the least serious of the bunch but that doesn’t make him irresponsible, just funny. A classic class clown on the Galactic scale. It would be nice for someone to have to hiss “ssh!” in his direction to show he is not perfect but overall his jokes help cut through the l cm wide tension that sometimes develops in the YJK series. His lightsaber is a true representation of himself. Though he is not “mechanically” apt as some of his comrades at the Academy, he did not get help assembling his weapon and it worked! That says a lot. (Imagine someone who’s never used a computer before being asked to put up a web page on the net.) The most prized part of the lightsaber is the glittering Corusca gem he “found” during his stay on the GemDiver Station, owned by Lando Calrissian. The blade casts an emerald glow, similar to the blade of Luke Skywalker.

Lowbacca Kashyyyk 19 Lowbacca is a rare find in this novel. His character could have readily become background fodder, but his relationship to Chewbacca and the T-23 he owned made him stand out above the rest. (It could also be the fact that Wookie’s tower over most species. :) He is unbiased in nature, which later on causes a conflict between his friendships on Yavin and his friendships at home. Lowie is also caring and a computer genius! Given enough time, he could probably rewire the NR Coruscant’s flight controller office to play Sly Snootle music all day long. But still, he is young and he has a long way to maturity. As expected, with Jaina’s mechanical prowess and his computer programming skills, they make the new Chewbacca/Han Solo combo. One thing that should be mentioned about Lowie, he has gone through the Wookie ‘rite of passage’ and is the proud wearer of the syren fibers. Lowbacca’s ginger colored fur with a pirate-like black streak is magnified by his molten bronze lightsaber, constructed from a focusing lens and a spherical enhancement jewel. I think his lightsaber, by far reflects his hobbies and habits.

EmTeeDee Coruscant 1 year old A six inch radius droid, as annoying as Threepio, as extravagant as Threepio and as prissy as Threepio. I can’t wait until they make a smaller version of Artoo to combat this translating creation/monstrosity. But I like him, just like I like Threepio.
