ArtsWeek

September 29, 1998
River Café, Toronto

As part of the Artsweek festival, Oasis performed an entirely a cappella set to a full house at this new café in the west end. Although our Musical Director, Jen Lavery, was ill and unable to join us, Colin Swift saved the day.

Fundraiser for Hill House Hospice

December 6, 1998
Marylake, King City

Oasis accepted an invitation to perform a full concert to raise funds to benefit Hill House Hospice. Over 300 people attended the concert at the beautiful Marylake shrine in King City. Hill House raised several thousand dollars as a result. The concert included a lively mixture of jazz standards, seasonal pop favourites and traditional pieces from various cultures. About two-thirds of the concert featured a cappella songs; on the accompanied pieces, our trio of Doug on piano, John on drums and Jeremy on electric bass were simply fabulous. Taking turns with conducting were Colin, Maribeth, Catherine, Susan, Geoff and Bob. We thank Jen and Sean Lavery for helping with the sound board and cueing the band. Special thanks go to John and Jane Reid for their incredible hospitality.

Let It Snow!

December 19 and 20, 1998
Buddies In Bad Times Theatre, Toronto

Forté, The Toronto Men's Chorus, put on their second ever holiday concert, with special guests Oasis and Iris - The Toronto Women's Chorus. The Main Space at Buddies was packed for all three shows. Colin and Maribeth conducted the four seasonal a cappella songs in the Oasis set, with help from Claire and Alan.

Colin co-ordinated with Forté to make sure our appearance was worry-free. Thank you to our new-found "sisters" in Iris who not only sounded great on stage, they also saved the day backstage as well! And of course, special thanks go to our wonderful sounding "brothers" in Forté for putting on a very professional show and making us feel so welcome.

This concert was the last for long-time basses Bob Crouch and Alan Gotlib. Alan subsequently joined Forté.
