Basara

Basara? We just kinda got started, but we'll try our best… You know though, there are practically NO sites on Basara the manga… ^^;; So we can't give you English names referred from Japanese… other than the main character… We believe her name is Sarasa…?

Anyway it's goes something along the line that in the future where some terrible war or something left Japan in a desert-like state, there was a legend about (here's where we're confused.) Basara or Tatara… (Hm… We saw some cover with Tatara on it online, but… The Chinese characters for Tatara in Fushigi Yuugi aren't the same with the ones in Basara… so either it's Basara or there's another way of spelling Tatara I didn't know about…)

Somehow, this story involves the four animal gods (You know, we've noticed this guys appear all over the place… Fushigi Yuugi, Yu Yu Hakusho, and now this…) Byakko (the village where Basara/Tatara is suppose to be), Suzaku, Genubu, and Seiryuu.

Anyway, the lengend comes to life as a pair of twins are born. The boy is named Basara/Tatara, the girl, his younger sister, is named Sarasa. They look _very_ alike. In a raid made by one of the four sons of the king in rule of Japan, at the moment, Tatara/Basara was killed, along with Sarasa's father, her mother was taken captive and her village was burned to ash with few survivors. Heartbroken, Sasara honors a promise she made to her brother, to take care of the village when he wasn't there… she made herself into her brother, took his place… She passed. So now she's on this revenge thing to avenge her village with that Prince that totaled her village… She has became a leader, many have heard of the Legend of Basara…

There's also something with these four swords, each one for each animal god. Haven't figure out that part yet… we just know they have some sort of magic and Sarasa needs to get all four of them to defeat the king. This is an ongoing series (22, 23 in February 1999, volumes so far) by Yumi Tamura. The artwork's pretty good! ^_^
